Hi want to get myself a printer to do A3-A4 colour and black and white prints... Not to worried about price I'm a good believer buy cheap you buy twice....
What's the best value for money paper

Just bought an Epson Stylus R3000 and its really good

Depend what printer you buy, the equivalent of the epson R3000 is the canon pro1 and a set of ink is £265
A set of ink for the R3000 is £200 but smaller.
The thing is you can easily found set for the R3000 for a lot cheaper or go even cheaper with with the refill one.
Pick up a new set of ink today on eBay for £100.
Not much bargain for canon ink out there.

I thought you weren't worried about the price ? :p

I made my purchase 2 years back when I got an R3000, it's been extremely reliable and the prints from it are very good.

However if I was to buy now then I would also be considering the Canon Pro1. The ink costs per cartridge are a bit higher, but there are more carts so it might even out a little due to slower usage.

As for paper, the best value paper I've used has been Epson semi gloss, however Permajet oyster or gloss also offer good value for money. As far as the best paper I've used though, that's Canson Baryta Photographique followed by Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Pearl.
 
Hi, I honestly couldn't give a copies per cartridge/set of carts as I'm not sure. The ink gives more prints than my 2100 did, but the carts are bigger so it should do. I've printed about 50 A3+ and at least the same at A4 this year and I'm sure that I have had to replace all the carts once (apart from matte black) and some of them twice, maybe one or two are onto their 3rd but I can't say with real accuracy. Maybe I should start keeping a log of what's printed and when carts are replaced - I might do that if I can remember to start it!

The one nuisance is that although the matte black cartridge is in the printer as well as photo black switching to using matte media starts off a cleaning cycle that wastes some ink, and it's the same when going back to using the photo black cart again. I don't know if the new Canon behaves in the same way.
