Looking to get a good printer were inks don,t cost you an arm and a leg but with descent dpi any suggestions.

I am really impressed with with my Canon IP4600 so I have no doubt the newer versions are just as good. ink is reasonable but not exactly cheap! printer head is replaceable. It can also print directly on to CDs/DVDs.

I agree with the above (I use an IP4850) but it probably doesn't meet Stephen's 'arm and a leg' criterion - the ink is expensive and doesn't last long if you print a lot of photos. But I doubt if any photo printer is much cheaper to run, because it's where the printer manufacturers make their profit. I'm currently trying some compatible inks from Ink Warehouse, which are higher capacity and cheaper, but I don't have the results yet.

Kodak are selling their printers on the basis that the ink is "cheap" and it is. However, they have a three colour cartridge so when one colour runs out the whole cartridge is lost. Not sure on the resolution.

I have an all in one Epsom printer but i am not impressed with the resolution or cost of the ink.

Most printers nowadays will yield good results, however Canon and Epson are probably the most popular printers in the photographic arena. Look for printers with individual cartridges for each colour. That will save you money.

Ink isn't cheap, some people say they get good results using 3rd party products. I have to say I've never been satisfied with them and stick to original products.

As far as individuate printers are concerned, I can only speak from experience with Epson machines. Anything with the word Photo in it's name should give you the results you want.

Initially which ever make of printer you try, start off with the printer manufacturers paper, and use a good one not an inexpensive version. This should enable you to see what the printer is capable of. Once you know that you can try others to see if they are better or worse, but you do need a reference point first

I've researched the Kodak printers on t'internet, and while their inks are relatively inexpensive (costing only as much as a fine vintage wine, rather than heavy water), the printers themselves would seem to be as reliable as a politician's promise.

I've got a kodak 5250 all in one and I am very pleased with the results, and it was the cost of the ink that made me get it

all OE inks are stupidly expensive - I have a fotospeed CIS with my R2400

I find it cheaper to send files of to somewhere like DSCL and get the prints back in the post a few days later.

I have used Canon printers over the past few years and have been impressed what what I get for the money. Currently using an MG6150 multi function which is excellent so far.
