Hey all, I'm possibly looking into getting a printer that will print up to or past 18x12 prints. can anyone recommend what might be a good choice for me that the print quality is decent but not sky rocket high in cost?

Any printer capable of A3+ can print to 18"x12" - A3+ is 13"x19". Heard very good reports about the Canon Pro100 so got one on order.

Never done the measurements lol. Was never a fan of canon printers, personally never had luck with them, any others that anyone can recommend?

Well, people slate HP printers.
Lexmark seem to be better (IMO) at laser/office printers
That leaves Epson. Whilst people do rate them as good as Canons, some people report issues with print heads clogging.

Personally I didn't buy an Epson last time, as my last Epson rusted.
My last three printers have been Canon because of that, the latest being the Canon Pro 9500 Mk II, which is A3+. It is a good printer, the only downside is that it takes 10 cartidges, and so a full cartridge set isn't cheap. There is no CISS for it apparently the Canon's don't lend themselves to CIS.
Epsons do seem to have CIS available, so IF my canon does fail (which I see no reason for in the next

Hmm....What would the "Canon PIXMA iX6550 A3 Photo Printer." be like? I see there is a CIS system for it and the reviews seem to be good. The epsons are way out of budget for me I think.

As a straight CMYK printer, it may not give you all the colours you want - I'm happy with the colours my iX4000 gives and that uses the same 4 inks, it's just the B&W that lets it down. Personally, I only ever use genuine Canon inks after a bad experience with a compatible cartridge, so unless genuine inks were available to refill a CIS I wouldn't bother.

Have you tried their Pro range? This would be like saying that I had Canon compact and therefore I don't want 1DX.

Pro 1 and Pro 10 are based on pigments, therefore the prints are more durable and some sources suggest - somewhat water proof. The downside is high cost per page. Note Pro100 is dye based which means you want to keep prints away from any moisture. http://www.redrivercatalog.com/infocenter/articles/canon-pro-100-vs-canon-pro-10-compared.html

The alternatives - Epson 3880 and R3000 - both pretty old but can also deliver results.

However if you fancy more - look at Canon ips6400 (bargains on ebay?!)

Thanks for the replys guys, will have to take another think it seems

I will look these up now and see what I come up with, thanks.

@JayB The Canon ix6550 is a good printer for the price, i currently have one but am upgrading to the pro-100.

The ix6550 only has the basic colours and as people have said its pretty good but it falls down on good black and white production.

If you are looking for decent colour on a budget its very good.

The Pro 9500 Mk II is pigment based. One day I was taking a picture from the car, and it got splashed with some wet mud. I blew it off when I was inside, no discernable mark left on the image.

You would recommend pigment based printers then yea? Are they not a lot more expensive?

Canon 6550 is only A3

Oops - didn't spot that :)

Thanks for the replys guys, the 6550 on the canon site says up to A3, so I would assume it prints A4 as well yes?

I also have the ix 6550 Canon printer and am quite happy with it.

Epson 3880 should be looked at, clogging doesnt really happen now and it prints beautifully, Its B&W is amazing quality especially using the ABW driver,,, Its the same as 3800 except different profiles available here

The 3880 sure does look nice but WAY out of my price range. Still undecided what printer to look at or just get a ciss system for my r360 and just get larger prints printed online.
