I have a MS Surface 3 with Win 10, last week I got the blue screen of death, don’t know why, but every time I attempted to start my machine it just went straight to the BSOD. Anyway have fixed it creating a bootable USB stick, but had to reinstall all my software.

But one final thing is driving me mad, I have a HP Laserjet Pro 1102W printer now unusable. My machine is recognising the printer on my home WiFi but tells me there are no drivers installed so won’t print. Have downloaded the driver installation file from the HP website, but when I attempt to install the drivers, I run the .exe file it seems to do something, it shows it is extracting but when extracts 100%... nothing, just dies.

Any and all suggestions very much appreciated.

Are the drivers W10 certified?
32bit or 64 bit?

When you run the exe does it show it extracting to a folder?
whats in that folder after it finishes?

Mr Bump,

To be honest, I don't understand your first question, My Win 10 is 64 bit. It shows an extracting message, but doesn't show a folder.

By the way I've also tried running the file as administrator, doesn't make any difference.

Thanks for the suggestion Chris, if you look at my previous post I did try running as administrator with no joy. Tried the Win 7 driver with an equal complete lack of joy. But comparing the file names and sizes of the Win 7 and 10 installation files they look to be the same anyway.

Could the program from HP be just unpacking the driver files into a folder without actually installing?

Possibly Tori_T, but I've no idea where!!

But I do appreciate you making the effort to help.

HP's universal drivers normally unpack to something like c:\hp universal printer driver\{type&version}
Have you got one of those on you HDD?

Many many thanks ToriT, folder not exactly as you suggested but you certainly pointed me to the CORRECT location.

All up and running again!!

Glad your sorted, I had to do a reload for someone today and it took nearly an hour to install a HP all in one printer. I thought it had just stopped but the hard drive light was battering away so I knew it was doing something.
