Hi,

I was wondering if anybody could possibly tell me why my printer colours are all wrong? I know this is a profile issue but I've no idea what to change to get it right! I have some lovely vouchers with nice pink colours, but they come up brown/ orange when printed!

Both LR and photoshop are set to sRGB. I have the Dell 2711 monitor which I calibrate using the Colourmunki display.

My printer is a bit ancient now, it's the Canon IP4600. But I don't print that often and I'll be replacing it as soon as I leave Cyprus (if it lasts that long)

I have tried printing through photoshop, into settings using the setting 'printer manages colour' wrong
I have tried photoshop manages colour, still wrong!
I have tried using the profile from when I last calibrated the monitor (which I need to do again today).

I've left other settings as 'normal printing'
'Relative Colorimetric'
And the black point Compensation is ticked.

I have never yet managed to print correctly using photoshop. However trying via windows viewer doesn't allow me to print to the size I want!

Any tips greatly appreciate.

Oh and I have googled it to death!
 
First of all are you using Canon branded ink and paper. If not then this could be the problem, as the printer doesn't know the characteristics of these materials This may be why " Printer manages colour doesn't work

Secondly The printer profile you need to use is the one specific to the paper/ink/printer combination you are using. It's not the monitor profile , as this applies only to the monitor.
 
Nope I'm using cheap 7dayshop.com ink cartridges as I only usually print paperwork and the random photo here and there!
I have Canon paper and other brands though.

Here's a photo of the prints. The top is the one through photoshop, the bottom through windows!



So I know it can print accurate colours!
 
Sounds as if its double profiling. Try using photoshop manages colour but then when you are in the printer dialogue you have to disable colour management. I ony print with Epson and dont know your printer but it might possible be just to set color correction to none. Double profiling must be the biggest cause of headaches in printing.

welcome to the minefield that is colour management.

You need your monitor profiled which you have with the colourmunki Display but that is only a monitor Profile, Don't also use it with your printer.

Your Choice of using sRGB in Photoshop is probably appropriate as you printer probably cannot print to a wider Gamut.

In Photoshop you need to set the print driver to Photoshop Manages colour and select the canned profile for your paper, if you don't have a custom paper profile.

In you printers advance section set to paper to match the paper you are using but set colour management "ICM" to off, then save it to a name you recognise for future use.

Then print your voucher.

You may still not get 100% accurate results with a custom printer profile, but it should be close.

In general, when printing with alternative inks, you should create your own paper profiles for each paper-ink-printer combination with a spectro like f.e. SpyderPrint.

Many thanks for your replies, and apologies for taking so long to reply. I am going to have a root through the printer settings and actually check what paper I have, then I will try again!
