So I just decided to make a lovely fine art colour print on some A3 paper and I found that Monaco Ezycolor won't run under Lion.

I've used this for a few years with different papers producing profiles for each one. It won't work in Lion and there are no upgrades :(

What is everybody else using? What do you recommend?

buy a PC lol

And that would prevent software incompatibilities when upgrading operating systems....? They really have changed since XP then.... ;)

spyder 3 print studio

Thanks - looks like that or Colour Munki ATM. I'll see which gets reduced first.

In other news - I ran the print without calibration and let the printer do its own thing. GORGEOUS print....

colormonki is pants TBH

It is, would you care to elaborate as to why you think it's pants ?
I tested one a while back and although it was the design version for someone who wants easy calibration of monitors & printers it's very quick and simple and produces fairly decent results imo

The same issue effects the Gretag i1....

cause its not as good as spyder thats why

Oh well you certainly elaborated on that
I thought being as you seem to know quite a bit about profiling it would be helpful to people trying to make a choice between the two.

colour cast issues with colormunki and the profiling has less patches too

I have the same problem with Lion. I have a couple of apps that wont run on it.. Seems they are PPC coded and with no Rosetta Stone they wont run. I reverted back to Snowy and all is well with the world. To be honest I am having problems in seeing any significant adavatage for me to go to Lon at the moment

I have stayed on leopard for that very reason - the pro version of the gretag software that we use is £1500 to upgrade.... no thanks - I'm happy with ProfileMaker5....

I'll perhaps add another Mac running Lion for all the admin - but the imaging beast will stay stuck in leopard for some time...

Thanks.

@David - you don't need another Mac, just another disk. You can have one bootable system per disk (including FW EHDs) and just hold down the option key when you boot to choose which one to use today.

I'm starting to wonder if I can install Leopard / Snow Leopard under VMWare just like I do with XP. Then I could have a window for running Rosetta apps in.

In the meantime, I've noticed that all the paper I need to calibrate is from Permajet and if I send chart prints to them they will email a profile for free. Which is nice.... ;)
