I have a Canon G650 printer. I have just gone over to Lightroom for post processing and the prints are coming out very weak and with some colours missing. I am using Canon paper and use an iMac with Tahoe OS. AI say it's all to do with Canon Air Print but try as I may I cannot get it to not use this, if, indeed that is the problem. I've undertaken nozzle clearance and deep cleans and the tanks are still half full. I thought that before I throw it out of the window in frustration I'd seek advice here.
 
Have you tried connecting the printer via hardwired?
 
I have that printer and I had the same problem.

I do not have an iMac and i watched soome of Keith Cooper/Northlight Images on Youtube and he does mention some problems that he had with Canon/Mac. That might be a source for you

I tried the nozzle clean and eventually the deepest clean that Canon installed in the printer .
The latter solve the problem. What I did notice when it was playing up was that thre were air blockages in some of the 6 ink tubes which I saw from opening the cover of the machine. These are tied together in a kind of ribbon.
Once I had completed each clean (and it took a few attempts) i could see that the air locks had eventually cleared.
I now have a weekly reminder set up on my pc to print a test sheet (also Cooper's advice) to keep the ink flowing.
I don't know if this helps as it is just my experience.

They tend to clog up or dry out if you don't use them for a while even with genuine inks. I have an A3 Canon ip8750 that I haven't used for a while that I'll probably have to buy new inks for,
 
Yes, I did a nozzle printout where the yellow and greys were very, very faint. I’ve done about three deep cleans.

Yellow and some Greys are faint naturally, but if they are worse then you remember leave the printer for 24hrs then try another nozzle printout, doing more then 1 clean or deep clean is just wasting ink, allowing 24hrs will let bubbles or dry ink to dissolve, and try one more clean if needed.

As above, airprint causes issues try a cable too.

If the print out 'grids' for each colour are complete, no broken/missing lines, I'd guess the faint colour is normal, and the issue is driver related and is the airprint causing your print issues, a cable should solve it.

I had one, it blocked up, I replaced the head (cost something like £70) and that lasted a few weeks then I binned it. Fingers crossed yours works
For what it's worth I now have an Epson 8550 eco tank which while expensive to buy is mega cheap to use and so far totally hassle free..
 
Regarding the Airprint drivers. Go into "system setting", down to "printers and scanners". You should see a list of your printers. If you see more than one instance of your printer, the likelihood id that one of them is using the Airprint drivers. Highlight that one, then click on "remove printer". That should get rid of the Airprint driver, or at least disable it.
 
I had similar problems with Mac mini and Canon Pixma 10S. I had the same printer listed twice. The one I kept that ensures the printer works correctly is Canon PRO-10S series IJ Network.. Does your printer have IJ Network? I have just bought a Canon 310 pro printer and will see if that does the same thing of trying to load two separate printer set ups.
 
The AI advice is to not use Air Print but use the IJ network instead to allow full colour management but I simply cannot effect that despite several tries, the printer insists on using Air Print.
 
Have you tried:

Disable AirPrint on the printer's web interface
This method disables AirPrint at the printer level, which is useful if you want to stop it from broadcasting on your network.
  1. Find your printer's IP address by printing a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel.
  2. Open a web browser on your computer and enter the IP address into the address bar.
  3. Log in using the printer's username and password. The default is often "admin" for both, but this may vary.
  4. Navigate to the printer's settings menu. This may be labeled Network, Networking, or Advanced Settings.
  5. Look for AirPrint Settings and uncheck the box to disable it, or select Off or Disabled.
  6. Save your changes.

Remove the printer, then "add printer". Do NOT instal 8550. Instead, go down to Select Software then choose 8500 series.
 
Thanks for all the advice. I shall make a strong cup of coffee, gird my loins and follow those steps.
 
Quite. I'm not even sure I know how and with what to gird them.

Just be careful with them loins. Gird them too tight and it will stunt your growth and make you go blind.

I believe it's a tradition to request pictures to prove this sort of thing happens.
Not that I'm asking (this is from someone who was offered a part in the Conan the Barbarian film as a loin-cloth wearing extra - it didn't happen in the end so no pictures will be forthcoming..)

Chances are - if the deep cleans are not working - you need to try an ink flush which purges the ink lines.

This takes a lot of ink. The printer will refuse if the ink tanks are anywhere near the low level line markers. It will also use up capacity of your waste ink cartridge (though these are not expensive to replace).
 
No advice here, but jut wanted to say I love the title :D
