When you print in photoshop say if you wanted the print size to be 10 x 8 do you set it in image size as a 10 x 8?

Just wanted abit of help on it, as sometimes there is a white border across it.

yes

yes, plus resolution of 300dpi

The important thing to remember when printing is the aspect ratio of your image.

Most dSLRs have a native aspect ratio of 3:2 (which is the same as 6:4, or any multiple thereof). The aspect ratio of a 10X8 print is 5:4, which is slightly squarer.

To make a 10x8 print you have three options:

You can crop some of the long side of your image to fit, losing a part of your image in the process.

You can constrain your image to maintain ratio and print so that the long side of your image fits, but this will give white margins on the short side.

You can print to fit without constraining ratio, but this will squash the long side of your image, thus distorting it.

Or, you can just crop it to 10" x 8" discarding bits of the image and have it fit perfectly.

See option one, though perhaps not worded in quite the same way. The point is that you will lose some of the original image.

I always crop, I learnt from an early stage to not zoom fully in.
For example, last year I sold lots of photos to runners, most of them wanted 10" x 8" prints. This meant I was going to lose a foot or something that was needed in the image.
So from now on I plan on 10" x 8" crop, and pull back from the zoom to accommodate
