My prints are turning out brighter? over exposed slightly when printing at home thaan they look on screen... Now I know calibration may be the answer BUT its only started happening recently AND same prints form photobox look great... so the problem must be printer

I may have accidently changed a setting so here goes..

PRINT WITH PREVIEW
Opens a box that includes
MORE OPTIONS
this opens up the box to reveal
COLOR HANDLING
The permutations are too many to list and one box opens other options.. the main list is
LET PRINTER DETEMINE COLORS
LET PHOTOSHOP DETEMINE COLORS
NO COLOR MANAGEMENT

Or do none of the above matter and made null by printer properties that i can select prior to print

Photoshop PS2 v9 (Mode is rgb color /8 bits)
Canon iP4300

Any help apprciated

LET PRINTER DETEMINE COLORS
LET PHOTOSHOP DETEMINE COLORS

Make sure you select "PhotoShop Manages Colors" and not the printer and make sure you disable Any profiling in the printer to avoid double profiling.

Also make sure you select the right Printer profile in Photoshop

ok set photoshop set colors

its set on
PRINTER PROFILE: WORKING RGB - sRGB blah blah
RENDERING INTENT : RELATIVE COLORMETRIC

that sound right?

Select the correct printer profile from the dropdown list to match your paper

Relative Colometric should be fine with black point compensation ticked if available

wow..didnt know they where there...ta...so far so good :)

found my printer but theres pr1 to pr4 ??

turn off ICM in the printer dialogue box

For Canon: In “Properties”, go to “Manual”, in “Color/Intensity”, press “Set” and select
“None” in the “Print type” menu. Note: Very Important, especially where Photoshop manages colour.

BTW I use genuine canon photopaper plus glossy II

I felt that I had wasted about £600 on my R2400 plus paper, refillable cart etc etc until someone else's thread which showed a minor little option I hadn't seen. Once this was changed my photos were transformed to such an extent that they are as good as lab prints!

PRINTER SETTINGS >> BASIC >> COLOR SETTINGS > .....

Set this to "COLOUR CONTROLS > Adobe RGB"

and WOW!!!

profile depends on the paper you want to print from - canon suck and at giving proper names to the paper profiles.

I followed all the instructions and used the first one... colours not over exposed this time but printing was poor.. tried adobe rgb re darren and the colours are terrible...but only adobe rgb (1998)

have tried pr1 theres also mp2 and sp2 and sp4

Have a word with iconoble, I borrowed his printer profiler for a week and profiled all my different papers and ink THEN you use that option above :)

Iain, how about your choice of tea or coffee and a selection of chocolate biscuits if I can borrow your printer profiler and maybe a bit of your time to show me how to use it? I might even stretch to a pint or 2 in the Bull if my prints come out nicer than they are at the moment (which shouldn't be too hard).

Thanks for all the replies and help..much appreciated..

The problem got worse using the let PS manage the colour and skintones where yellow.. tried all the different options for my printer...

Decided to leave it on auto let the printer mange.. I just need to minor adjust the brightness of the pic before printing :)

I have a Canon Pix IP 5200 and had same problems as you. Found I had to let printer determine colours, use glossy photo paper setting for paper no matter what I was using and match the srgb from camera to printer. Same issues until I got a Spyder and calibtared. Works much better now.

I have that printer and mine is set to auto with the default CNBJPRN3 and am more than happy with it.

If that profile is not there, just click ADD in the PROPERTIES and select it from the list.
