Print colour problem

When I print from my MacBook Pro to Canon iP 8700, the images print a lot lighter colour, at probably 2-3 stops wider aperture. However if I send to my iPad, and print from photos then the colours are more correct. Images look good on the Macbook screen, but print so much brighter. Any suggestions, if I alter the colour settings on the printer, to match my MacBook, then the images sent from my iPad would be incorrect.

I don't know anything about Apples but the principle is that the print software takes the image and tells the printer what ink colour or mix of ink colours to use for each pixel on your image. If you're getting different results out of the same printer with the same image on the same paper, then the print software is to blame.

Issues like this are normally corrected by using an ICC profile which is usualy created by the paper manufacturer on a per-printer basis and is a baseline "for this colour, use this mix of inks". However I have no idea if your print software allows you to change or add an ICC profile, or whether your paper manufacturer makes them?

If you could somehow force both the mac and the ipad to use the same ICC profile you should get the same print out of both devices. You can then calibrate their screens, or simply alter the brightness to get them to match the print.

Hi, yes I don’t want to alter the printer settings as that would apply to both devices, so it has to be the information from the MacBook Pro which is different.
I also tried opening the same image in photos on the MacBook and printing from photos, but I had the same results as when I printed from Capture One or Affinity photo. Really strange, but some how I will get there, I’m only an amateur computer operator that’s the trouble. I will look into the ICC profile, or the Apple equivalent, will postvany improvements I find to this post. Thanks for the reply.
