Prince!

It's ridiculous. It's like a talent massacre. Meanwhile all the mediocrities remain breathing.

Who's nextt........?

Kanye West would be justice.

Really sad right now.

Yes, heard the breaking news on the radio on way home - a real shock.

Confirmed his plane had been diverted the other day due to ill health and he had to cancel a couple of gigs...

Whether there was underlying issues or complications, but very sudden and no age at all...

Completely gutted [emoji20] We were lucky enough to see him perform at the O2 a few years ago and were so blown away by the concert that we paid a small fortune to go back and sit right at the front. It was worth every penny. What an amazing guy.

One of my favourite artists, whatever name he went by...

George R R Martin needs to stop writing the script for this year.

the way this year is going i woudnt fancy taking part in a "next celebrity to die" competition....i woudnt like to even hazard a guess at who is next

Anyone who starts of a record twanging a ruler on a desk is a musical genius in my book. RIP Prince.

Fancy prince dying on the queens birthday .

Another drug addict dies - well theres a shock.

Just because you have lots of money, abuse your body in that way and you will end up dead.

An unemployed addict dies on the street corner, the world has no sympathy to the loss, Bowie or Prince, oh thats terrible.

Oh well, there's always one....

Perhaps the reason being, no one has heard of the average street corner crack addict.
Feel free to compile a list for public mourning.

Ah s***, I am just off to Facebook to publicly express I was a secret Prince fan all along. I blame Diana for all of this bandwagon mourning :D

Sounds about right for faceberk.

We've covered Purple Rain as a finale a few times. Prince was such a talented musician, heck of a guitarist. So sad to hear of his passing. :(

Whether a musician is considered universally great or not, if you grow up listening to them you invariably develop an emotional attachment. It's got nothing to do with them being famous, rich or whatever. Music has a way of seeping into you and connecting you to the person who created it in a much stronger way than other media. I don't think the outpouring of grief has anything to do with today's Facebook generation. It also has nothing to do with not caring about 'ordinary' people who die every day. Every person on this forum would be upset if someone they were emotionally connected to died, whether they were an unemployed Glaswegian addict or a millionaire rock star addict. It's the emotional connection with the person that triggers grief, not the stature of the person who passed.

Do you drink? If so, you're a drug user. If you drink regularly, you may well be a drug addict. Do you smoke? If so, chances are that you're a drug addict. Difference is that (in the UK), booze and fags are legal.

We are talking about someone here that bought immense happiness to millions of people around the world through his music, so in that respect, yes, the world is a much poorer place now that he is dead. Would the average nobody druggie dying have the same effect? No, of course not.

I was dragged along to the O2 by my girlfriend (now Wife) when he was there doing that 21 show run. I wasn't a fan prior to that, but I do now consider myself very lucky to have been there. A great showman, and absolutely fantastic musician.

Apparently he has enough unreleased music to release a new album every year until well into the 22nd century. I say that's got to be worth doing.

Still the best live performer I've ever seen.
