Hey guys and gals

Someone asked me if they could have a photo I took of Tower Bridge, which is fine, but I dont really want to give it to him for nothing, so any ideas how much i should charge?

Or should i have it printed up and sell it that way?

help!

what size shot do they want ?
i:e a4 7x5 ect this would make a diff on price i belive

I can't help you, but I can echo the question. I have given a couple of images away to aquaintances on the basis of getting the credit for the images and have done so, but I have no idea where to start when it comes to pricing.

I pressume size/quality counts, as well as whether you are handing over copyright, or require credit for the image, etc.....

Erm lets say its a 10x8 print

I charge people I know £7.50 for a mounted 10x8

I charged £10 for 8x10 and £5 for 5x7 everyone seemed ok with paying that.

I don't mean to be a killjoy or anything, I've just come from reading about another tog who had some images stolen and published and I'm in "copyright law" mode.

So with a tongue firmly in cheek I'll just say that selling the photo of Tower Bridge is technically breach of copyright.

some people eh...
you can't copyright a building :bat: .

;) :D

Actually you can... like the eiffel tower and night pictures. Sucks but it's true. Just try to get onto Fountain's abbey with a tripod and see how far you get (depending who's on of course).

With the eiffel tower and night pictures I believe you'll find it's the light show that is copyright as it's a performance, not the tower itself.

As to the original question, if they want a print then the prices quoted above are fine for people you know, but you might like to check

The prices are a good way of seeing what you're work is truly worth :)

After reading an article in one of the photo mags the other week about english heritage sites I thought you only had to pay a fee for commercial use if the photo was taken within the boundaries of the property. If you take the picture of a property from public ground outside the property then you can do with it as you please.

Just go and look around some online galleries to see what others are charging for similar sorts of prints at the same size and then use that as a guide. Ultimately it is about what you and the buyer both consider fair so with the average in mind it is then just up to your judgement, which might differ based on who you are selling to.

Michael.

I have charged £30 for 10x8 mounted, added any cost of frame onto that,
