The same as what is going on all over the world Mark, financially in the *****. And they will do anything to create some revenue, either hiking the prices up on things they know people need such as food etc and they are also aware some people will pay through the nose to get hardware.

The prices have been on the rise for a couple of months. Stupidly I sold my 1DmkIV just before the tsunami in Japan and wanted to replace it with a 7D. Since then though the prices have been going through the roof!!

imo it's getting to the point where the prices of cameras are above what they are worth. I used to own a 7D bought new off Kerso for £980ish and I was perfecly happy with the camera and price. Now they are over £1200 and imo that price is more than the 7D is worth.

but they have been steady for a couple of weeks. i should know, ive been in the market for a 5d2,
ive been checking the prices religiously
even yesterday 5d2 was only around £1670 and 7d £1089
fortunately i got a mint 2nd hand mk11 for a good price

Which as far as I can remember £1200 was about the price at launch

No, about £1500 at launch. I managed to pick up a bargain at Wilkinsons though, 7D & 580ex II for £1299 in November 2009. :D

There does seem to have been a lot of price fluctuations, I've been looking at picking up a Panasonic 20mm lens for my Olympus Pen and they've gone up and down from about £250 - £300 over the last few weeks, almost at a point of just "biting" the bullet.

the industry feeds on our ''wants'' ie selling a 7D you ''were perfectly happy with''....;)

my Nikon D5000 is more than capable of matching/beating my skills levels ....I wont upgrade

Im after a 5D mk2 and think im going to have to go 2nd hand one when one appears at the right price as new seems to have slipped out of my price range! shame really!

yeah same reason i'm still rocking a 20D

although that said its done somewhere in the region of 100 thou so its going to die sooner or later - when it does i'll probably either buy a low milleage 40 or 50 or i might bite the bullet and get a 7 - but that will do me for another 8 years

(i recently replaced my 9 year old 300D second body with a 3 year old 450D from MPB )

i was looking in classifieds for a 2nd user one. i was let down, then found the one on dales website and snatched it up
however one in for sale tonight with 7monrh warranty left and its only £1400

Canons new long L lenses have just gone up $1000, even before they have released them so that new 600MM L is now $13,000

I have no access to the classifieds yet, oh well, but thanks

I guess the upgrade is due early next year as well, so will the price plummet then? Im surprised how the 5D holds its value though ive just advertised my 7D, 5D, 40D (on another forum) loads of interest in the 5D and not the others, so maybe the 5D mk2's value will hold up well in the next few years!

Could it be also due to the situation in Japan with regards to the aftermath of Fukushima?

The Canon 7D was actually £1700 at launch. I was a very early purchaser -as soon as it hit the market in fact, and got it for £1400 ( which was a great discount at that time) from Digital Depot.

I don't think that a current price of £1200 for a 7D is unreasonable given the world financial situation and the after- effects of the tsunami which are affecting production of pretty well everything from Japan, including cameras.

Was looking for a new 5D Mark 2 just a bit woried that the mark 3 will come out as soon as I buy one.

Yes, I think so, all the manufacturers were affected, either directly (I have seen reports of both Canon and Nikon having damage to plants in the area) or indirectly through the smaller parts manufacturers that supply the big manufacturers with components were probably hit even harder (having fewer financial resources to get back into production quickly).

I got a 5D MK II a few months ago and very happy with it. If you wait for the MK III it could be costlier than the 5D MK II, could be out next year, and then you could find out another camera model is being released and may want to wait for that and so on.

I think a good condition 5D MK II would still be valuable. It's an excellent piece of kit. Even if a MK III does come out I don't think the price will plummit that much. I would not be surprised to see a MK III to retail around £2500 at least.

I think second hand 5D MK II's would still sell very well.

When Canon do a cashback on the 5D MkII thats when you know the next model is coming out!

Even if the Mark3 does come out it wont make the pictures from the Mk2 any crappier it will still take fantastic pictures! Just got my new Mk2 for £1,270 got to be the bargain of the year! (for me anyway:)

Just got my new Canon 5D Mk 11 this morning £1599
Charging battery now.
