I have been looking for a 35mm and 50mm prime lens for my d3100/d90.
I was advised to get the af-s lenses but have been offered both for £150 only problem being they are MF lens.

Will the AF motor in the D90 work with these?

Thanks

Any lens that is strictly manual focus will not be focussed with the auto focus motor in your D90. They will, however, still probably* be compatible.

*some exceptions to the rule - exact details of the lens, especially serial numbers, would help massively

If they are the older Ai or Ais Nikon lenses they will mount on your camera, however they may not meter on your body (your manual will confirm this), and they will be manual focus only, which could be tricky on your crop body.

The auto-focus motor on your D90 does just that - it autofocuses autofocus lenses, nothing more.

You are stating that the lenses are mf - manual focus. This means that there is nothing in the lens for the motor to connect to, you simply turn the focus ring until the subject is sharp. Some camera bodies will give you focus confirmation, I don't know whether the D90 has focus confirmation.

Otherwise, as long as the lenses are compatible (most are, unless really old), you will be able to use the lens in manual exposure mode or aperture priority mode, but focused manually.

There are now lots of photographers using manual focus lenses on m4/3 and similar cameras.

HTH.

Seems that either the op didn't want to know the answer or just couldn't be bothered to reply to those that did!
