Hi

Looking to purchase a 50D

Just wanted to know why the new camera prices seem to vary so much? £550-£706?

Paul

Richard, there is a seller on the bay with new 50d's for 550. They must be grey imports though as they only have a 3 month warranty.

Contact Kerso here. He imports stuff from the US and his prices are very good. There is a big thread which I can't find at the moment with all of the people who have purchased from him and comments. His service is EXCELLENT. If you buy a body from him, as he provides a UK receipt it is covered by UK warranty - I know as I have had to send a body back to Canon for fixing usinf his receipt, so absolutely no worries there at all.

Oh right. Well then in that case, the answer to the OP is that camera is cheaper because it hasn't paid any UK taxes, and it has no meaningful warranty. Duty and VAT would make it more expensive than a legit UK camera.

There are 50d's on ebay for £519. They are listed as Canon Refurbs and only have a 90 day warranty.

You pays your money.....

Hi

Thank you all for your replies.

This is where I got my info from and seems to have cleared things up. I take it it's not worth taken the chance on an import with only 3 months warranty?

I have contacted Kerso and wait his reply.

Thanks again

Paul

Well, that depends. You'd pay nearly that for a used model with a few thousands clicks and you'd have zero warranty. If you think of it as a perfect second-hand body with a three month warranty it's a bargain.

Surely it depends on how well the company acts with warranties. The warranty is not with Canon, but the company. So it may mnean the warranty is useless if the company dont play ball.

But like has been said, a second hand body with no warranty is around the same price, so its well worth a punt. I'd buy on a credit card though in case any problems arise and you should be covered.

If your patient you can pick an unused one of ebay for about £510-£520,or a used one for about £500,or £598 brand new with 5yr guarantee.

Once again thanks for all your advice. Food for thought about the import

5 year guarantee is something to think about also. Can I ask where you've seen this?

Cheers

Cleared it out, Paul. :)

I spent a lot of time looking around before I bought mine. I reckon around £650-680 was the going price for a decent non grey import from a reasonable dealer.

There were cheaper ones but they were from dealers I would not do business with.

I have to say that at the time I was not aware of Kerso.
