I've shot a fair few local festivals and music concerts etc, all arranged through a contacts i've made that have a lot to do with local events, so they've been happy to pay me to do the work.

But now i've reached a stage where I want to improve my portfolio further and maybe gain passes for some bigger events and make more contacts. E.g. i'd love to be able to shoot something like Latitude festival (I know something like Glastonbury is quite out of reach!).

May sound a bit silly  but is it really just the case of sending some emails and just hoping you get a response? Does anyone who's freelance and does this type of thing for a living have any advice? Would it help having a publication (press) send u?

Thanks

Yup! That's how you do it. You don't necessarily have to bombard them with requests either. Some agencies are desperate for photographers to do their work. It's publicity for them at the end of the day! I signed on with this company last year and worked at Beach Break down in Llanelli in South Wales :) http://wearefullfat.com/client/beach-break-live/

But did you get paid for the shifts, or for the images that they then placed with the magazines ?

What was the quid pro quo for you shooting for them ?
