Just read in the Sunday Times that Premiership footballers are getting their financial advisor's to see if they can have their extortionate salaries paid as Interest Free Loans thereby allowing them to circumvent the new 50% tax rate,in addition Arshavin of Arsenal is trying to renegotiate his £80K Per Week salary because he pays more tax than he thought he would have to.Well the only good thing out of this is that they are screwing the Tax Man and inadvertantly Parliament many of whom really need screwing.

Well I find one Wolves player doing this and that's 47 years of support out of the window

Despite my having a season ticket at my club and despite subscribing to Sky Sports purely for football, I hate what football and its players have turned in to. I despise the game.

I am as guilty as they are though, I have a choice to stop paying, but until it's financially or physically impossible for me to do so, they've got me by the short and curlies.

Anybody would do the same thing if legally possible.
We are currently in a financial crisis, apparently.

If my customers think I'm taking the **** by paying my employees extortionate amounts of money and charging them a ridculous amount of money for my products in order to subsidise my company's large salaries, I'd expect them to walk away.

However, the football fan is emotion driven, not financially driven. A football club has no competition, we can't walk away to find another supplier, we are committed to our club by some misguided loyalty. It's almost as bad as a cartel.

This enables them to take the **** out of us without too much cause for concern.

lets not tar everyone with the same brush eh .. You probably earn more than most league 2 footballers and almost deffo more than none league footballers.. Calling footballers scum is a bit much... can we not just keep it to premiershipa and championship scum:)

Of course you have a choice. You either go or you dont... easy..............I have a husband who moans week in week out about everything to do with his team [plymouth argyle]. He moans about the players, the transfers, the board, the pitch everything.....but as soon as the season tickets go up for sale he is there cash in hand ha ha.

sorry guys i have no sympathy.:cuckoo:

You are correct Kipax i will amend the title now

Everyone would do the same.

Can see it being too long before they start living in Monaco and Switzerland and only fly in for games so they can pay next to no tax :suspect:

Premiership = 22 overpaid buffoons chasing an inflated pigs bladder round a grassy field for 90 minutes.

Get back to what they did in the 50's and 60's - cap players wages. Pay them £35,000 a year (they have to work most weekends after all!) flat rate, and if they make any more from sponsorship/advertising/endorsements, that's up to them.

Isn't the real story here the fact that some people (not restricted to footballers) are looking for ways to circumvent the recent and totally pointless, headline grabbing, increase in the top rate of tax. The real culprit is Brown.

And as for Arshavin. He was under the misapprehension that he didn't have to pay tax so I can imagine it was something of a shock to have 50% taken away from him.
