Man alive, I'm as nervous as I've ever been about anything!!

The missus is due on the 24th and I'm constantly in a state of emergency, waiting for the phone call. I've had to stop the odd beer on an evening and I'm having to tell myself to remember her overnight bag and the car seat`... which I haven't even checked how it fits in the car!!!! :)

I just wish that you could know 100% that she'd go on her due date but all this not knowing is killing me!! :)

Relax. I'm not a doctor but a mother of 2 and grandmother of 2. If this is her first baby her labour will probably take ages so you will have lots of time counting the time between contactions before you have to go to the hospital. Its a good thing to cut out your beer though so you can drive. Babies do come in their own time and the doctors usually let women go up to 10-14 days overdue so your little son or daughter may not make an appearance for a few weeks yet.Just make the most of the quiet nights and both of you get some sleep.

Only about 5% of babies turn up on their 'due date'. A full term pregnancy is 37-42 weeks, so labour could happen anytime, although if this is your 1st baby, it will more than likely be late!
A word of advice..... get the car seat fitted and checked!!. It's no good putting your newborn in a car seat if the car seat isn't installed correctly. Make sure you know how the straps adjust - you should just be able to slide your hand under the straps once the baby is fastened in - any looser and the baby isn't secure enough.

As ladysue said, enjoy the time you have left as a couple - make an effort to have a date or something like that.... and good luck!

Got to second that, I only did it a couple of times and got a right rollocking as I fumbled my way around it...
Make sure your proficient in it and get used to the first time you drive your newborn you wil realise just how fast and dangerous every other b*gger on the road drives!

Good luck and enjoy the process......
