i have challanged myself to for 2013 to get out more and do some walking
1st thing in a morning and maybe some night's with the camera and tripod and grab some scenic pics

is there a way of telling if there is due to be a good sunset or sunrise some of the place's i want to go are a few good mile's so dont want to wasting money the getting it wrong

so is there a way to predict if it is going to be a good day to have a go not after a miracle and understand things are not 100 percent but just wondering on thoughts

and also which direction the sunrise and sunset will be so i know what area could go to to get these i know there is going to be planning invloved

The Photographers Ephemeris is the tool to give you the times. The rest is about being able to read the weather. The leading edges of weather fronts on the Eastern horizon at dawn are reasonably realiable suppliers of the broken sky needed to create good dawn light.

1st part i understand 2nd part im a little ocnfused i persume your saying in the weather front comes in there should be a good morning for a sunrise ???

downloaded the app thanks will take a look soon

I like coastal sunsets myself, so I've been using this website to get the sunset times as well as the tide times, if your on the east coast it might help you with the sunrise. As for direction i only know that from watching it myself, after doing it regular you will start to work it out for yourself as well, i try and get to where i want to be 30 mins before i want to start shooting

Google Earth can be quite good too for letting you see the actual landscape as the sun sets and rises.

It can be difficult to predict what a sunrise or set will look like, though the weather forecast can be useful, but there is always an element of luck involved.

Only things I can suggest are to be as prepared as possible before the event.

In addition to the Photographer's Ephemeris the OS map of the area you want to visit is very handy for land shapes, buildings, river or road lines etc that could help to give a good shot.

Also try to be wherever you are going at least 30 mins before sunrise or sunset. I've missed loads by not allowing myself enough time.

cheers im still looking / not knowing where to be and when i know one place i would love to go but i know it will kill me walking there lol but we will see i know most of it is luck this is why i want to knock most factors out and see how to do this and hopefully get the succes rate to a good morning higher then i have before
