Ok now I'm not togging the wedding, hell I can't even go as I can't get out of this damn bed, but I want to do something nice for my niece and her fiancé in the lead up to the wedding and as a wedding present.

I though of doing them a nice portrait of themselves, not in wedding gear or anything, so they have something nice to keep and was thinking of getting it canvas printed for them.

I have no studio lights, nor can I get or use any, but I do have a shoot through umbrella for one speedlite, a softbox for another and have one other speedlite left that I can use a diffuser on for the background.
I have a Black/White/Chroma green pop up background and train, 1 x 60" x 40" reflector and 1 x 24" reflector.

I plan on doing several shots obviously but the idea for the shot is firmly in my head as Lucy is quite petite, but James is well he's like a house!! I.E. think rugby player.

I liked the idea of the contrast between them so this is what I thought of trying.

head & shoulders shot.

James behind, no shirt, arms wrapped around Lucy chest, Lucy in front, slightly angled towards him, strapless bra so it doesn't show on her shoulders, looking up at James eyes.

High key, white back drop, softbox from right on Lucy, shoot through from left on James, speedlite on background to blitz any shadows and give separation.

Both twitcher's so use.....1/200th @ F8 using 85mmF1.8, ISO 100, bracket 1/3 stop either side, just to make sure I freeze them, shoot several 3 frame boosts to be sure of getting the shot.

Normal PP then convert to B&W + normal B&W PP, feather edges, final levels and checks

B&W on 16" x 12" or 20" x 16" canvas.

Good or bad idea? not done this shot before but I think they would like it.

I'd be tempted to shoot at 5.6 iso 200 to save flash power

I'd light them with the softbox, and maybe use a reflector for fill, rim with one speedlight - from behind on the opposite side as softbox, have last speedlight firing on bg

Job done?

Instead of the canvas an alternative might be a large print 20x 16 inches or so. Then get it mounted with a wide border, around 6 inches is good.

This is then set on an easel at the reception for all the guests to sign the mount, leave messages and framed afterwards.

I think they might want to keep this a little more private, I know there's no nudity but Lucy is a bit shy and my brother (her father) kicked off when I did some photo's for her last year where she was just laying down fully clothed with her heels crossed, head on hands (60's style shoot).

Hi also try 125 @ iso 100.. f8 -11 or in between could give some nice results

Regards Merc.
