Pre wedding groom shoot advice

Hello I'm new to the site but looking for advice


I have just been asked off a friend who is getting married this weekend to shoot the pre wedding at the grooms house as the photographer they have paid for cannot make it to the grooms house as they are busy at the brides house.

I am happy doing this as its great experience but I'm looking for ideas for shooting as I can find pre bridal and have done a mock pre bridal shoot before.

So I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice or suggestions when doing the groom shoot

Shoot what you see.

Just the same as any other part of a wedding day when you're documenting it:

details - cufflinks, a great time for the ring shots, buttonholes (the mum will probably be putting it on for him, a genuine moment), drinks to settle the nerves, champagne glasses, outfit details, straightening ties etc.

Look for the bona fide moments ;)
 
That's the problem with doing a 'mock pre-bridal shoot'

A real bride will be in a room with anything from 2 to 15 other people, there's mayhem, bras and tantrums being thrown in every direction. You get your angles for the light, stay calm and shoot the 'serenity' of it.

The groom prep will be a lot more chilled, the groom will have some nerves, the bestman will too (worrying about his speech - in his mind, the most important part of the day), but everyone else is having a great time. You might catch people reading their speeches, checking watches pensively etc.

Shoot what's happening.
