I pre-ordered the Nikon D800 a few days ago on the advice of my accountant to buy before the tax year ends for various reasons I won't bore you with

I went through Jessops as I have Quidco plus I figure they probably get quite a big allocation. Now, the release date is stated to be March 22nd (or March 26th on Amazon) and whilst I know *Nikon* can easily push that back, assuming they didn't and all goes to plan, how likely is it that I'll get the camera round that time i.e in the first batch of deliveries?

I've never pre-ordered camera gear before. Obviously it's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question, not helped by me not ordering the second it was announced, but generally do people find if they place pre-orders for in demand bits of photographic gear at Jessops, do they tend to get it around the release date give or take a week?

Or is there just simply no way to know..

Thanks!! :)

I wonder how 'in demand' it will be.

I think preordering can be a foolhardy or brave thing to do.

I recently ordered a D700 from Jessops, was told delivery in 7 days and it actually arrived 3 weeks later, good luck.

I'm surprised their credit is still good?!

Of course, when pre-ordering a new camera, you will the full price. Why not wait a while until competition amoung dealers reduces the price by a few hundred pounds?.

If you are worried about getting an invoice dated before the end of the tax year, why not talk to a small dealer instead, who may be able to be a flexible and issue an invoice before delivery...if you trust them that is!...at least they can be more certain in their delivery allocations from Nikon uk.

Unfortunately it'll take more than a few hundred pounds for it to be worth the saving I'll make by getting it before the tax year is out. If demand is high then prices aren't likely to fall any time soon either, and I need two bodies sooner rather than later!

I wish I knew of any reputable small dealers as I'd rather use them, but there don't seem to be any decent bricks and mortar camera shops that I know of besides Jessops locally.
