Practical Joke - My new Boss

Although in away i can see why some people may have taken offence, for maybe not having a sense of humour, but as for being a security breach, is tad rubbish in this case.

The guys name is plastered around the news websites, tv, even mentioned in governemt sites, all of which state he is serving there. Do people really think the enemy isnt watching UK TV, or reading UK media? Ofcourse they, just like we do.

Easy enough to find a close enough address for a base in the area, (took me about 1min) if it happened to be the wrong one, it would just get forwarded to the right one. May take weeks, but it would still get there.

If the guy was involved in special ops then yes it would be a major security breach, and would derserve a major slapping. But i 100% positive that Arkady wouldnt have posted in that case.

The only other thing that would be slightly iffy to me is if the person wasnt in the media spot light.

Question now though Arkady is how long do you keep him in the dark? lol

This is absolutely terrible.

Posting a soldiers address on a public forum is extremely thoughtless and extremely dangerous.

Its not about lightening up its about personal security, any idiot could post something of a dangerous nature to this Lt Col

It may be funny to some but if he opens something that goes bang posted to him from some radical nutter I doubt it would be so funny.

The OP needs a kick up the backside imo, he is breaking a fundamental rule in security.

Unbelievable.

Now that's funny :)

Well he still hasn't twigged - so potentially this could run and run...

Is his volume of mail appreciably bigger?

Get a life.. you do not know what you are talking about.

So because someone has said he cleared it with his superiors we should all believe him then should we?

I happen to have served in the Army for 24 years, recently retired, and I can assure you that behaviour would not be acceptable.

I am sure you know best eh!

so your trying to say that in all that time you never saw a newspaper print out an address so that civis could post xmas stuff and all that..Can you also say that the post office do not give out lists of BFPO no:. in leaflets or web sites..for christs sake..or were you one of the guys that never did a tour in your 24 years..?

Well it all got a bit heated in here!
been on overtime this week so missed all the fun!

Has he received the usual subscriptions to 'special interest' mags?
our RSO was inundated with them on OT7, always a giggle to watch her hiding her mail away!

This is great Rob. Nice to see that a bit of leart hearted fun can still be had with the job you lot are having to do.
Keep it up.

Kev.

what a plank! sir, as i assume you would like to be addressed, from a young'un to and older gentleman, go and mow your lawn, the grass is not of a standard height

I can't understand why anyone would keep raking up what started as a genuine post of concern for the possible consequences for the 'victim' of this practical joke.
It seems some are preoccupied with berating someone who has made his point then already graciousy bowed out.
The poster made what he felt to be a real point about safety and Arkady has made his point that it's A OK too.
It's been mentioned . . . it's a fun thread.
Why turn it back into a childish mud slinging match?

:'( What are we supposed to have done?

  :)

What?? Paul Daniels is sending the guy in the warzone frillies?? Debbie will be please, I hope he washed them..

We haven't heard anything for a couple of days, although I guess you could be busy with other things.

But has he sussed it yet?

dont be pointing the finger of blame at me without good reason...

well it wasnt me, whatever ive been up to..

Quaker - not sure how to say this any clearer....LEAVE IT! :)

The rule is there for obvious reasons, in this instance we have decided to allow this as we have been assured (as has everyone else in the thread) that this is fine and acceptable and will lead to no harm.

If you have nothing more to add to this thread then I STRONGLY suggest you ignore it.

Incase you hadn't noticed :

Final Words : While we may not have accounted for every single situation, the spirit of these rules is clear and evident, and will be enforced and interpreted as such by site staff.

The spirit of the rule you're quoting was intended for a completely different situation, so please don't start quoting rules back to the people who wrote them.
WE will enforce the site rules to the parameters we deem fit.

I, as admin and co-owner of this forum, say that this thread is fine, and that rule does not apply to it.

So drop it. End of.

Col Wakefield just breezed in and told me he's wise to it...he knew it had to be a wind-up as soon as stuff started arriving but didn't think it was me...I think maybe one of the peeps up in Bastion may have tipped him off...

Thanks to all who contributed to this - it was good bit of morale for us all (quiet, suppressed giggles all round the Ops Room whenever extra-large knickers appeared on the desk etc etc...).

Boss says to Sue: he likes your tits...

- the photos of the birds that is...in your gallery...*ahem*...

Now I have to watch out as payback is sure to come...

You mean you haven't been court marshalled and put in chokey for breaching OPSEC?
*gasp* :D

Interesting that he did not think it was you at first! Either payback will be forthcoming or more duties in places most likely to have nasty bitey insects for maximum discomfort!!

Glad it kept people amused :D

Well you all know where I am by now...
Our new Press Spokesman is a really nice guy by the name of Lt Col David Wakefield, OBE...
...and today he lost his Live-Interview virginity...

I would consider it a personal favour if as many of you as possible (pref female - though if you're that way inclined, blokes too...lol) would write and tell him how gorgeous he looks...he's terribly concerned that he looks right on TV...
Hopefully you will have seen him today on the BBC, SKY News and Channel 4 News announcing the Transfer of Authority from 19 Brigade to 11 Brigade (and any stills that went up were mine BTW!!!).

His address is:

Lt Col David Wakefield
Media Ops
TFH HQ
Lashkar Gar
BFPO 715

Enclosed panties optional...

You are a really brave guy winding up Lt Col Wakefield, just be careful though as SO's sense of humour can evaporate in less than a heartbeat  and you can find yourself having a real bad tour!
