Hi so i went for a walk around a local fishing lake the other day and here are a couple of the shots I took. The shots arent amazing but im new to photography so bear with me haha.

They have both had some slight editing in Lightroom 5.6 (still learning what to do).

What would you do to these two pics differently? Any tips or advice please?

Thanks in advance for any help

Possibly should have put this in landscape photo area? My bad if I should have

No.. here's fine. You're after processing advice after all.

It's almost impossible to say what you should do though, as I don't know what you were trying to achieve. What makes you think they need any processing at all?

There's something weird about the sky in the first one that looks a bit horrible though.

I think you'll get better advice if you posted the images with no processing, as at the moment, we can't see what the raw file actually captured... only what you've done to it.

Yeah fair enough. Do you mean where it's quite blue with the strange grey patch? Off out for the day so ill get the originals up when I get home, should have thought about that first really haha

yes... with dark halos around the clouds, and blown highlights. Looks ugly.

No one reading this has any idea about what is part of the exposure, and what is part of the process you've done though, so it's hard to say what to do best. When you post up originals we'll have a better idea, but I suspect you are over processing in that top one.

although I have apparently lost the 2 edited versions now

so looking at image 1 i can see that ive blown the highlights but is this too far to pull back? im messing around with in in lightroom but just cant seem to lower the highlights enough at the minute. any ideas?

Well... looking at the unedited version of that first image, it's clear why it looked weird. You're just over processing. The sky is quite flat and white, and you were trying to make it look blue. You can't add what's not there. Often processing is not the answer. If the light is not right, then it's not right. You had to push things so far to that sky to look like it was blue with fluffy white clouds that you've just stretched things in the histogram too far and ruined quality. I would probably just use a little highlight reduction and not much else. The second shot, now I see this one, was far too saturated.

I prefer them as they are to be honest. The answer rarely lies in processing. If your image is a long way off what you wanted it to look like, processing it too much just ruins quality. Why not try visiting the site at different times of the day, and different conditions in order to get the shot right in camera?

Yeah was thinking I need to get back. Did plenty of reading up on histograms last night and think I understand it all better now so hopefully after another trip will get better results
