Yes
Hi, My HP computer recently began to have issues when I turned it on (wouldn't on occasion) Today it will not turn on at all. I am not a totally techy type but am usually ok with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers in my hand, is it reasonably easy to swap over? I have been on the bay and they are selling for for around £15 for a Lite On PS-5301-08HF. Thanks.

Jack

usually a you tube vid out there.

whats HP PC model?

As above YouTube is your friend.
Not withstanding that it should be simple plug and play e.g. the motherboard cable can only go in one place as do some of the other cables.

yeah cable routing is usually a challenge also the psu will connect to fans, hdd, cdrom, floppy if you have one etc?

I had this 12 months ago. Just the same symptoms as you.
I started a thread here, and got some good advice.

I bought a decent power unit - approx £70 as suggested in post #41.
Mr Perceptive of this parish swapped things over for me for the price of one of my wife's evening meals.
It looked very simple to do. The only thing that caught me out was that the new terminals were all in two pieces whereas on the old one all the leads just had one piece terminals.
Other than that it was just putting the right size terminals into the right size sockets.
Would I do it again? Yes, it looks easy. The hardest part was routing the cables through the scaffolding!

Only thing I would say - and I'm no expert - but £15 for a power unit????

Thanks folks, think I'll have a go might get another year out of it:)
Perhaps you can tell I'm not a 'latest gear person/tightwad' (delete as you feel necessary)
@mickledore these are just used or refurbished units.
Thanks for the advice folks.

Totally agree with Mr Bump above - buy one of eBay. I have done the same this week as I needed a new one for a computer I was building. Just make sure that the one you buy has got the right sort of connections for your devices. If it only comes with 4 pin Molex power cables then you will need to buy molex to SATA converters it your hard drives and DVD drives have SATA connections. Such things can also be purchased very cheaply off eBay. Alternatively you may also get a PSU with SATA power cables as standard - I did at a very reasonable price.

You will also need to check what connectors you need for your motherboard. Do you need a 20+4, or a 24+4 or some other combination? If you don't get the right one then you could find that the new PSU will not power your computer.

Hope this might help.

Thanks for the info, that was my main worry, the connections not being the same.
Ah. I didn't see that. Sorry.
No need to apologise, thanks for your input.

If you can, buy the same HP model, sometimes they fit into a space. It'll have thesame connectors and then as said, it'll just be the routing.

Might be worth plugging it in before you screw it all together - just to check thats what has gone.

The model I quoted in my OP is the one in my PC, do they vary for different PC's? the connectors that is.
