Ladies and Gents of TP,
Please find a link to a free website which allows you to register pretty much anything with a serial number or IMEI number and uploads to a database. I registered last night after finding it on another photography forum (for dirty Pentaxians!) and did post a link in two areas today, but one of the "adminnies," who shall remain nameless ( though change the first letter of his name to a P and it might look like something you receive from the postman

) accidentally had a "forumfart" whilst combining them!
This database is used by every police force in the UK, and by a lot of second hand dealers to check for stolen goods etc. I think a lot of ins co's use it as well for fraud checking. I believe as a member of the public you can also search it by s/n to see if reported stolen etc. You can also scan in recepits etc which most insurance companies will then accept as proof of purchase / ownership.
This part of the website is 100% free, and it also offers for sale property marking kits, microdot kits etc etc.
Please note. I have absolutely no affiliation to this site - just thought it could be of use to people on here.
Mods - if you think it's in the wrong place - please feel free to move accordingly
