Sorry folks I'm sure this has been asked many times before and I have tried looking for answers in other threads and have tried some of the suggestions but I'm rather confused.

I know that the maximum size pic I should post is 800 pixels on the longest side, which on this picture which is 800/458 an 96ppi gives

Now most other pictures I'm seen posted here are quite a bit bigger although still 800 pixels.

I've tried changing the ppi figure on CS3 and although it tells me the image is now say 6" instead of 3", when I upload it to Flickr and then link to here I get exactly the same image size.

Am I missing something very obvious e.g. Flickr limits the image size or am I just getting the whole pixels/ppi thing completely wrong :thinking:

Along those lines, in flickr click on "All Sizes" above your photo, you should then have a choice of size options along the top, click on original and it should show you the full size 800pixel version. It shrinks them to 500 to display them on flickr.

Forget about pixels per inch and inch sizes. Just go by the number of pixels. 800 pixels is 800 pixels.

basic resizing with simple software is described here. As JL says you can let flickr do the resizing for you instead.

Robert,

I was sure that was the case which just made my confusion even worse when it didn't make any difference to the image on Flickr or here. I've just started using Flickr and hadn't realised it that it had different display sizes.

ppi is irrelevant as it will be down to the viewers monitor settings to decide how many pixels per inch.
 
ok before anyone else mentions it I think scorpius has got the message :p and I think he might have cracked the problem :)

/me slaps the next person that comes in a posts that ppi doesn't matter! hehe

Yes I have got the message. :p

But I'm not bothered that more people have given the same message, I'm pleased that folk have taken the time to reply and try and help me.
