I have sold a camera which is high value so wanted to send by RMSD (it arrived to me exactly the way I want to send it) so I packed it in exactly the same packaging it came in as it came to me by RMSD.
At the PO the counter staff weighed it and measured it and said it was over weight and too large to go by RMSD then offered me a Parcelforce option at £23 + £75 insurance add the VAT and its well over £100, so we stripped the package to the smaller box inside and it was still overweight, so they say and still pushed me to buy the very expensive Parcelforce delivery, I refused and went home to look on the Royal mail website.

Meduim parcel not exceeding 60 cm x 50cm...…………….its 45 x 38cm
Weight under 10 kg...…………..its 3.2kg
Value not exceeding £2500...………….its £1300

So we went back armed with this info, the owner was adamant he wouldn't be taking it RMSD, so we went to the main PO in town, explained what had happened and the lovely staff in there weighed, measured and said it was well in the limits and took it in, they couldn't believe how we had been treated at the other PO but did say there has been lots of complaints about them, they can now expect another

Rant over.

If in work we would say "You may have identified a training need"

Our local post office closed and local shop has taken over so often get served by staff with limited training and who only work a few hours a week so are unlikely to ever be as efficient/familiar with systems as the full time staff we had in the local post office. Progress eh.

I've heard similar stories about some sub post offices, luckily mine is run by a woman who has a clue.
Over the years I've sent various bodies and lenses via RMSD without any problems.

Our local PO is a full time PO and has been for years, all it sells is packing materials and has always been a good PO but just lately its been getting worse by trying to sell higher priced delivery options, we have used it for years as we sell lots of group merchandise and post through this PO but the owner has started getting silly upping prices stating the items we post are larger...……...they are all exactly the same size and have been for 3 years, the mind boggles

Can you put a complaint in with Royal Mail?
Someone has to be responsible for bad customer service.

:agree: This has nothing to do with Royal Mail. You need to complain to the post office. These post offices / sub post offices are under contract with Royal Mail and don’t get to pick and choose the services they sell.

Had similar last week had to take the parcel back home and re.pack in just a plastic mail bag , but when I actually posted it she gave me yet another expensive quote till I said I had just checked it on the r.m website ,then turned round and said oh it’s going to the u.k I thought you said u.s.a ... no wonder the initial quote was so high ... bloody muppets . Luckily it arrived safely anyway .
But it’s easier to post things from my local garage at the top of the turning than go into town with parking problems

Well I have fired off a lovely email to them so let's see if we get a reply back :)

Buy the postage on the RM website and then just drop it off at your local PO to be scanned.
That way you know for sure the price and they can’t rip you off.
