The yongnuo yn triggers. Does the canon or nikon prefix determine what camera they can be used on or what brand of flash they can control? I'm asking as I was wondering if any these can be used with the epl 5. Not sure if Olympus cameras can be used to control other flashes using ttl.

N = Nikon
C= Canon
I.e. YN622n

& dont know as never tried

My guess is they will not work, at our camera club we use 603s, Nikon versions, and they do not work on Canon, we use a universal old trigger now, but so sorry i don't know what make it is.
Maybe a online retailer could advise you which to buy

Thanks folks. I will have a read online. I know i can use dumb triggers and flashes in manual mode but just wondering if I can use ttl triggers.

If you use the Yn622 triggers in either N or C flavour on your EPL5 you will not get TTL pass through because the pins on the olympus hotshot are different to those on either of the triggers.
The only pin that is the same is the firing pin which at best will give you manual control.

Thanks buddy. I would be as well buying cheap dumb triggers then.

AFAIK, the variants wake up the flash via the extra pins. Mounting the transmitter backwards will still fire the flashes

I've fired a 622N on my Canon but as above the TTL doesn't operate (manual only)

Not quite what you asked, but my Aperture Trigmaster Plus 2.4G triggers work (without TTL) on Canon, Nikon and Olympus. They have very similar specs for the non-TTL pins. They are badged for the different makes because the cables for connecting the triggers to use them as a remote shutter release are different.

Sony are somewhat different; not sure about Fuji and Pentax.
I've also used a Canon TTL cable happily on my OM-D E-M5 with full TTL control.
