At the end of last summer, I took a shot with a nice sky (which ironically I can't find at the minute) and noticed it had what looked to be a smudge on the lens, which caused the photo to have a black smudge on it.

I cleaned the lens (18-55mm) and continued through winter, thinking nothing more of it.

Anywho, I took a few shots of a mate's motorhome the other day, which was surrounded by a lovely, clear blue sky. Got it back home to notice the smudge had returned, awesome.

So today, I've had a gander and it seems to be showing against blue ish sort of backgrounds ie. a light sky. Did a few point & clicks out of the window and it was present on all, i took the 18-55mm off and give it a good clean just to be sure, the lens was absolutely spotless, both front and back glass. Took another shot exactly the same as before, and it's still there.

So in the process of elimination, i swapped lenses. Brought out the nifty fifty, and also the 75-300mm and took the same shot with each, and it's still there.

Example.

Shot i took the other day.

...All the lenses were spotlessly clean front and back, and all showed the same mark in the same place.

Have I got a problem?

No worries guys, thanks for the help!

Nice motorhome......

If you've got a rocket type blower ( don't use canned air) , you could try using that to dislodge it. You may be lucky!!!

( don't use canned air)

HA! Yes, I did that once a couple of years ago... big mistake!

The propellant condensed or something and left a load of marks on the sensor. Fortunately a couple of goes with a swab sorted it out but I wouldn't want to make a habit out of it! :D

Flashy

Got some idea's, cheers for the help guys.

And for anyone wanting to see some more of the motorhome, I'll stick a few more up once i've sorted them out, it's quite possibly the i've ever seen...38ft if i remember correctly..

Well, i managed to sort it with the help of my old man.

Had a gander at the sensor in the light, could see a couple of little speckles on it. Got a cotton bud and gently touched the bits, which picked them up and brought them off with no problems. Stuck the lens back on, tested it and voila, no more smudgy mark. Winner. :)

Cheers guys.

cotton bud/brillo pad = same thing

I am fully aware of that, got it on my 40d, but still have to swab every once in a while..

Just asking if the 400d had it too.
