It may be time to get out the maps and crop the areas we all fall into in the north, then with closed eyes take a drawing pin and mark a spot .... that way it will be pot luck and hopefully it will be close enough for Colin to attend too. :D

now that sounds like a plan! I volunteer to do the drawing pin

Great idea Dawn:thumbs: & your talking my langauge with lions, tigers & bears:naughty:

Good of you to volunteer Colin....I get lost finding the end of my street....even with a satnav :D

What we need is place near an historic town/city with wonderful views & a safari park close by.....off you go Colin...get searching  oh yes,& not forgetting some secret bunkers ...I do worry about you SS ....

Hiya Neil,

Not a problem, I will set up a list once I get a spare mo. Are we planning to have this meet between June - August? Bearing in mind that the school summer holidays start at the end of July through to September.

I've had to make some changes to my annual leave this year .... was originally going to do the first 2 and last 2 weeks of the summer holidays .... but now it looks like I am going to have to do a 4 week holiday from 6th August to 6th September. During which time I will basically be doing a camper van tour from Land's End to John O'Groats (not in a direct line, but veering off course to do some island hoping of the west coast Scottish islands).

Have to still plan the route, but am thinking I might do 4 countries in 4 weeks, i.e., England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland .... that will be some adventure :D

So from my side, if it was going to be during the time I am away I will either have to factor it into my route plan which hopefully I can do.

Maybe it is time for us to start giving this meet some serious thought and planning so that we can find a date/time/venue suitable to all.

Let's hear everyone's thoughts about this so we can get cracking. Then I will put a spreadsheet together for everyone to indicate their preferred dates.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Edit: BTW if it was somewhere in the Northeast region, that would fit in with my return route as I will probably be returning to England via the East side of Scotland/England toward the latter end of August.

Dawn , your'e a gem for offering to set up a SS/list type thing ,I'm pants at all that !

Your holiday plans seem like huge fun & going to some great pleaces , looking forward to seeing some excellent shots

Time off for me is difficult plan as have to work round others so name a date / place & if I can I'll be there . Saturdays are work days or tied up with bike racing till the end of October BUT I have already booked the 17th July off if fits .

I may be a touch paranoid ( it's not paranoid if they really are out to get you !)but posting up dates when you can't make it cos your on holiday etc , on an open forum , may not be such a wise move ?
Maybe PM's & a password protected SS would be better ? Just a thought:shrug:

Possible meet - Liverpool Triathlon 26th June.
I went last year to photograph and cheer on a friend of mine.
My friend is doing it again this year, so I'll be going again with my D90 this time!
Hopefully the weather will be just as good as last year.

It offers sports, street style, architecture.............

Here's a link to some shots of the day.

Just spotted this thread - sounds like a great idea. The frozen wastes of the North are too far for a day trip, but I don't mind travelling a bit.

I've been trying to get my head round somewhere to meet thats sort of local to everyone....unfortunately someone mentioned Liverpool & now all I can think of is Knowsley Safari park followed by a trip to Liverpool's docklands , & a couple of other nature type places that may or may not have a Secret bunker:lol:

anyone else got any ideas .....

That's certainly a good idea Lynne, but being a local lad, I'm now thinking I'd rather somewhere new!

However, although I've held a season ticket at Knowsley Safari Park for the last two years, I'm sure it will be a new experience going with fellow toggers than with the children! KSP is £15 per adult and open 10am until last entry at 4pm.

Can I throw Speke Hall into the mix (yet another regular haunt of mine) - depending on the time of year, their gardens can offer some good images, plus there is the house. It also offers a good view of the end of the Liverpool Airport (John Lennon Airport for those outside of Liverpool!) runway, but you mainly see Ryanair and Easyjet
Grounds and Garden are £5.25, unless you’re NT members (no point paying to go in the house, you cannot use your camera inside!) and it’s open 11am until 5pm.

Near by is a Pill Box at Allerton Hall.
Not quite a bunker and it certainly ain't secret!
Free and very local parking if Kev wants to jump out for a quick photo!

There are the Antony Gormley figures at Crosby, which is not far out of Liverpool Centre, albeit by car and the other side of Liverpool to KSP. There is a free car park and the boating lake for some sail boat shots if you want.

Liverpool city centre parking can be costly, but after 6pm it’s free on the street pay and display near the Liver Building, which is on the docks. I think the multi storey car park at the Albert Dock is £6, but it can be very busy if there is something happening at the Echo Arena.

a quick photo... pill boxes deserve time.. like pouring a good murphys...

Stumbled across this Linky for a possible meet, or just if you're in town and looking to point your camera at anything.

A Brazillian style carnival in Liverool 15th to 17th July 2011.
Lets hope the weather is good!

Hiya Neil,

Thanks for the link .... that definitely sounds like great fun, might just make a weekend of it and find somewhere local to camp with the van.

Will make some enquiries.

Cheers

Dawn :)

I thought I'd give this a little bump.

Bump!

Funny thing is .... I was just thinking about this again today.

We must try to organise something soon.

Even though we have rain and more rain lately ....

I think it is time for us all to meet and give each other encouragement ... especially as we are nearing the half-way mark of the 52.

Any suggestions? I know a place up in Appleby that has a fantastic restaurant and mini-mart on site that is only charging £10/night at the mo.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Appleby, isn't that where all the traveller folk meet?
£10 seams good, is that per pitch?

Yep, but the travellers have gone ... they meet at the end of May.

The £10/night is all inclusive of electric hook-up and there is also a solar heated swimming pool, fantastic loo blocks, the food at Sweet Briar restaurant is to die for, the people who run the show are amazing, there is tennis courts, mini golf, room for the teens, football pitch, gorgeous walks ... (of which I know like the back of my hand) .... it is brilliant! Gets 5 stars from moi (it is one of the best sites I have ever been to ... and believe me I have seen many).

There are also some very cozy wigwams for those who don't 'camp' ... but not sure on availability. If needed I could check out availability. I'm on first name basis with the crew there ... after all it is my home from home and if there were enough of us interested in meeting up there I could maybe organise a group discount.

Let me know your thoughts .... it may be a bit out of the way for some ... but for those in Scotland area it would be a perfect spot ... probably only 1.5 - 2 hours drive.

Here is a link for you to all check out and see what your think http://wildrose.co.uk/

Cheers

Dawn :)

BTW ... forgot to mention that they also have a cozy little room for the young'ens .... all done out in Postman Pat with soft play etc ... if you have kiddies under 5. Also have a laundrette etc ... and all based around the restaurant area so you can enjoy a drink while the kids are playing, washing doing it's thing etc :D

Cheers

Dawn :)

Sounds good.
I doubt I'd bring the family though - I wouldn't get chance to take any pictures!
It also means I've got space for two adults in the van (it's 6 birth, but I doubt we want to share beds on the first meet!).

 OMG the image is not pleasing ...... I can well imagine you and a few other chaps camp-side ,,,,,,

Hopefully I will have a few female re-enforcements, aka Tina and co to back me up on this one :D

Having said that, I think I could put the camp spirit to heart and have a great time with a load of lads, toasting marshmallows on an open fire and singing campfire songs  Not forgetting to open a few bevvies or two ;)

Cheers

Dawn :)

I'd be up for this dates dependant .
I've got a 2 man/woman tent , if no-one wants to share I'll come n kip in the van:D

Could do July but wouldn't get there till late saturday afternoon , August looking ok at the mo but waiting to hear 'bout hospital dates for my Dad which may count me out:'(

Hiya all,

I can do any weekend up to w/e before 22/23/24 July (where I have booked onto WRP for the weekend as they are having a free BBQ on the Saturday) Believe me the food is great (had a free BBQ there this last weekend and Karl -the chef/owner of Sweet Briar Restaurant knows how to make mean food). But as it is in peak school jollies it is at the premium rate ..... however if there are enough of us interested I may be able to organise a discounted rate if I ask nicely.

After that, i.e., from 08/08 I am on my 4 week venture .... so unless the venue is enroute I may not be able to attend, but if I know in advance I may be able to factor it into the journey.

It would be great if we can organise a camp meet before the winter (and I hate to say that word .... but heyho we have to think ahead).

It may be a trek for some .... but I think it would be well worth the journey :D OMG can you imagine the laffs we would have, not to mention the learning and sharing of our experience on the 52.

P.S. If any of you 52'ers have a driveway or spot outside that we can camp in the van overnight on our travels, please let me know. It would be great to meet up with you and would save me having to find campsites along the way. The aim is to mainly travel along the west coast of England and Scotland .... although looking at the weather recently we may have to change that to the East side of England/Scotland. I'm currently working on the travel plans.

Cheers

Dawn :)

AHEM!!*** bunker complexes...**** :naughty:

..another hit and run posting from the mad fool with the green box...

..and have camera willing to travel...just decide amongst yourselves and i may make an appearance, depending on weather and timing.. as i shrink in the rain and hibernate in the winter months til spring..
