possible idea for lens zoom

I was just thinking about using something like this to make zooming in and out with a camera lens easier ????? possibly for video work

I think what you are describing is called a 'focus puller' AFAIK they are available as both manual lever and electric motor driven. The aim of course is for smooth operation i.e. no jerkiness.

So, such an oil filter wrench would likely do the job but is possibly overkill for something that needs a 'lighter touch'?

Problem with the strap wrench is that it doesn't tighten down on it's own... it's not fixed.

They already make follow focus handles for the purpose. The gear drive ones are better, but require a cage/rails.
