Actually the boat didn't leak or sink they only got into trouble because the weather turned, you dont need a homemade boat for that to happen, look at the titanic :)

Ah, it looks to me like big business was worried by this DIY boat. If everyone realised boats could be built so easily and cheaply and even ships too the multi nationals would be in big trouble. Just imagine their share prices plummeting when people started building their own oil tankers, container ships and luxury yachts for about £30. I'm surprised they didn't stop this news story from getting out.

Having worked in the boat building sector, this is far from the stupidest thing ever seen on the water.
 
I'd like to know where you'd buy the insulation for £9.....
 
Haha this is great! Although clearly morons, I admire their determination, spirit and daring; I'm sure if they had the money they would have used more suitable materials but they made do with what they had and, to their credit, their 'boat' didn't sink.

Good effort, I say.
