Photographing a flat subject flat on is going to be a struggle. But I think it works in the context of the sombre meaning. I guess it leaving you feeling a bit empty (or abandoned) is kind of the whole point!

That's a great choice for the theme Andy - like it. Flat objects as Paul says tend to be "flat" but I think here the inclusion of the flower gives it that extra dimension and brings it out. I prefer the colour one too.

On reflection I wish I'd got in much closer and lower down to the flower with my 14mm for a ultra wide angle perspective. One for a revisit.
