weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

Hi Andy

Authority - The first shot albeit a tad wonky (can't be helped) sure says it to me, I like the light you did

The belt shot, Very Clever, a great idea well executed

Thanks. Im in White Rose shopping centre trying to get a photograph of a very bored security guard .......but he knows what Im up to....:)-

Just playing catch up on your thread Andy.
Some nice shots, and I see you've been spending again!

Pride is good, the SC links the shot nicely to the theme.
Flight, I would have prefered Isabelle being fully in the frame, but other than that it's a nice angle. I take itthat's the kite that is coming with us in June!

I like the belt shot, difficult to fully appriciatet he B&W on my works monitor, but as with all B&W, I wonder what the colour version would be like.

Keep it up mate, you nearly half way!

Definitely prefer #2. The lighting really works for the subject. I'd be tempted to just darken down the bit of belt on the very RHS but that would really be nit picking

Pride, I quite like. I have to say, as you have , Lynne's is a great take. I like wanted a wide angle but with the 11-16 objects in the distance appear ffaarrrr away!

Flight, yip that's the kite for June. I wasn't keen in Isabelle being fully in the photo.

Authority, with a colour version, it just looks like SC...the belt is dark as are, obviously, the shadows and with the band being red it looks like SC and I wasn't keen on that approach.

Cheers.

Hi, Peter, thanks, and thanks for mentioning the RHS, I didn't notice it.

Cheers.

2nd shot for me though it does need the explanation i wouldn't get it otherwise

Hi Andy

As usual a bit behind

Short - lots of comments already made. I just think that the idea was v good but not one of your best executions (:D gettit?)

Flight - good composition with the diagonal lines leading to the subject and like the idea of keeping Isabelle only partlyin pic. Super sky. Only issue that i have is that her hair(?) is blowing about and on my monitor it looks like a double ghost image. Overall I really like it.

Authority - like the idea of #1 , you have to work with the embroidery you are given. #2 is good shot but only really works with the theme with the explanation. Like the use of monotone - nice subtle pp.

Thanks for nipping by.

I agree that an explanation was needed....not a bad thing, though.

Cheers and role on Saturday

I really like both your flight shots.

Authority are both good too. Good to dabble with light painting.

Good work on the light painting Andy, it does give a very subtle effect to the images which I like a lot.

A little explanation introducing it to the theme is no bad thing either.

A good week for you IMHO. Well done. Iain

Well, as soon as I saw the theme I was reminded of an artist I saw and really liked a few years ago. Can't find him on Google yet, but I'll keep looking. He did wonderful sculptures using leaves and other natural objects.

Mine, obviously, isn't on the same scale, but, apart from the lighting...ggrrrrrr, I'm quite happy with the simplicity of them. Shadows aren't too bad in #1 but more evident in #2. I really need to invest in some external lighting.

#2 is 6 photographs stacked.

Thanks...and I have all manner of leaves being squashed in various books for other attempts.

Also have a few other, none leaves, ideas :D

GL all....

No messing about from you, is there Andy? :D

I think #1 just shades it over #2.
#1 shows more separation between the leaves.

Both simple but effective photographs Andy, I do like the clean lighting and lovely colour tones you have captured here.

Good work

Iain

Well rather than do the ironing...:gag:...I've been trying to find the guy that inspired me and he's called Andy Goldsworthy...stunning artist.

Here's his website linky if you fancy a peek and here's one of my favourites linky

Cheers and on with the ironing....:bonk:

I also prefer no. 1 as the angle is better. Very nice shot indeed

Hi Andy, seem to have missed loads of your shots. Loving your ideas and particlarly like pride and short. Flight stands out for its clarity, must try focus stacking it this is the type of shot it produces.
Leave - both good but preference for #1 as more defined in both shape and colour. The weak shadow is the only negative. If these could be removed would be perfect.

Like both of the images for their technical merit, though as 'artistic' images I'm not blown away by the uniformity, just personal preference really.

Excellent Andy. I'm guessing you used your new macro slider in number two?

I too prefer number one, I like the gentle shadows around the base of the leaves. The brown leaf really draws the eye, superb composition too:clap::clap:

Because the leaves were quite large I didn't have to use the slider.

The shadows, I thought people would feel these detracted,

Thanks.

Focus stacking...it's great at drawing out detail at lower f numbers.

I actually tried to get the colours the same but couldn't do it. It's amazing what how 30 minutes can change the light/colour of objects.

Cheers, any chance you can elaborate on the artistic element?

I'm actually not that happy having looked at them the morning after, and I've been to the park with Jackie and Isabelle collecting more leaves: all are being pressed and some are in colourant :cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

Cheers all

i like both the pics though neither of them are anywhere near on topic which I believe was "leave" :naughty: also the colours are a bit vibrant but if I have to pick one it would be number 2

Hi Andy

I like both. Clean, colourful sharp images. Stretching the theme a bit tho :D

If I had to choose i would go for #2 as i like the stacked layout and perspective and the shadows actually mean something whereas in #1 they distract from the simplicity of the leaves

Thanks. I prefer the composition of #1 but the colours of #2.

It's all about the interpretation!

- verb (used without object), leaved, leav·ing.
1.
to put forth leaves; leaf.

:)

I, obviously, agree :D

I didn't want to come across as ar*ey...because I didn't mean to be :D

I had several ideas and hopefully will have the time to photograph them. If I took a photograph of a bloke leaving a shop (nothing against this...I might add!), I wouldn't have learned anything.

Having photographed the leaves I learned quite a few, one main thing was I need to research OCF

Cheers.

I need to start trying new things, but still mastering the old stuff:bonk:

Oh and I need to learn the basics with a flash, let alone OCF! Too much to do and not enough time:nuts:

I'm very obsessive and you would not believe the amount of photography related information I've read/watched: DVDs, Podcasts, Books, Magazines, Youtube, one photography forum :D and then some.

I think the Law of Diminishing Returns is starting to kick in.

Anyway, on that note, I'll shut Youtube down and retire to bed...work tomorrow....:'(

Cheers.

I understand what you are saying and I wasn't trying to set rules but there is a theme I'm sorry you took my comment the wrong way I do like the pics and understand that you learnt something but you would also learn something taking a photo of someone leaving a shop, thats a bit of flippant comment you made each situation is different.
Sorry I didn't mean to upset you.

Not upset...:) My main 'issue' was you saying neither were anywhere near the theme. Have to agree to disagree, though. It's been very friendly 52, so I'll take your comments in the spirit they were given.

Cheers...

fair enough I wasn't having a go, God knows i am guilty of being loose with the interpretation of the theme.
Dare i say it shall we leaf it at that.:)

I have learnt a lot from people on here yourself included and don't want to fall out with anyone:thumbs:

Dare i say it shall we leaf it at that.:)
I like what you did there;)

The way I see it is this, a theme is a base, a starting point and more importantnly a reason to get out with your camera. You go off and shoot something and interpret it however you want, then post and face the music!

Interpretation is like beauty, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Oh I've had too much brandy :jaffa: :help::naughty:

I was about to comment about what super shots your leave-s are but that it was stretching the theme. Then I read this. Good on you!
As you say, that's what the challenge is all about. Much more important than a strict interpretation of the (non existent) rules.

Cheers, any chance you can elaborate on the artistic element?

I think it's just the 'uniformity' i.e. all in a line, a random display may have had more appeal to the eye

'Leave' - both these images are are really nice. i like the composition, focus and lighting. I cant really find anything to 'crit' at all. Nice work - Nick

Nice set of Leaves and I like the contrast of the brown one amongst them. Leave isn't really leaves though :D

Hi Andy...nice leaves!!!

#1 for me...I like the uniformity of the images, but then I do suffer with abit of OCD!!

Strict/stretch/totally off the mark....if it's good enough for the poster then it's good enough for me...

Ah, cheers. I had about 40 leaves pressed in a book from the weekend and was hoping to do a jigsaw effect Leave theme but the blooming leaves were all floppy and lacked punch...:bonk:

Hi Andy...nice leaves!!!

#1 for me...I like the uniformity of the images, but then I do suffer with abit of OCD!!

Something like leaves, I feel, works well in this kind of symmetrical layout.

Hi Andy

Leave - Nicely stretched idea mate :D

Out of the 2 I prefer the composition of the first, but like the feel/look of the second shot, the leaves have a nice sheen to them and real nice colours

I'd agree with everything you've said...apart from the 'nicely stretched' bit...:D

Hi Andy, I like number 1 the best, I prefer the layout of the leaves. Nice lighting too.

Thanks, I have to say, again, that the lighting was an area that I was trying to work on...so thanks.

Thanks all.

It's all good....not sure the project would last if we all posted the same photograph...
