weekly Posiview's 2012 ....week 52 Busy added...finished!

Back again

Love that sky......I'm not good with SC & PP in the ame shot so nooooo way am I posting my version...

It's a cracking image , great pp & I'm a sucker for SC so gets my vote all round  being very very very picky......maybe crop a little from the bottom to lose the railings on the bottom right ?

Hi Andy

Soft - Makes me feel ill as if it has gone off  Nicely took pic though

Pride - I'd like to see a crop with a little less foreground, would help show off the flags against the good sky maybe ?? but doesn't take it away, a good one for pride, having other flags of the UK in together :)

Cracking pic Andy, love the sc. Only thing I would do is a crop and remove a bit of foreground.

Cheers, all.

I've had a few attempts at cropping but they didn't work...the upper right building was too close to the RH side and the lower rail was pushed too far towards the centre.

Ah, well, if the blooming rain stops I might be able to get out and photograph my original idea for Pride...:dummy:

That works, I am pretty fussy when it comes to selective colouring but it really suits this shot given the theme. ;)

Hi, all, firstly apologies if I've missed your Soft and Pride but I hope to catch up shortly

OK, Pride, I had several ideas but the first 2 didn't work out.

While at the Royal Armouries TP meet last night I saw an opportunity for Pride.

The Royal Armouries is a great looking building (I know those that have seen it may not think so...:D), the surrounding area is cracking, the inside gives me a lot of Pride, the history of the United Kingdom (I know, it's not all good).

Anyway, I rarely do selective colour but felt this would work.

I'm looking to photograph my other Pride tomorrow night while Jackie is out :naughty:

Thanks all and  for still being here.

Week-16-2 by andysheader (Posiview), on Flickr

Great lead in with the lines, BW is always a good choice - even with spot colouring!

Hi Andy

Soft - I like the idea of the cactus and the balloons and of them #1 for me. Good colours and composition. I don't mind the sharp objects in the theme - I suppose that if you could just have got a little more indentation in the balloon then the 'soft' element would have come to the fore. Good pic tho.

The 'choc' egg is well done too and i agree with Lynne that perhaps the shells are too far apart. Nothng wrong with the general lighting I think, although the choc slick seems to have an orange/brown halo around it. Not sure hwy.

Pride - on theme, nice use of mono. The flags are a little lost because of their size so Maybe a bit off the bottom. without losing the lead in line an a bit off the left side, losing those ordinary buildings.

Hi, thanks for the detailed feedback.

Wonder what this week will bring us :)

Well, tried to photograph my original idea for Pride, but i just could not get a decent composition...the BG was far too bus.

Never mind

Hi Andy, I think this is a cracking shot for pride:thumbs: I think the SC works really well and I it's sharp throughout the shot. I agree that a little crop off the bottom to lose the railings would help. Plus I can see a little white halo around the Union Jack or is that just my phone?

Now to short....

Thanks for the comments. I don't think there is a halo

Cheers.

Well, spent several hours around Eccup Reservoir today and had a great time.

While walking around I got a ping and saw the new theme....idea sprang to mind and I photographed it.

I haven't processed the photographs yet, so they may amount to nothing :help:

Cheers all....

Hi Andy....

really like your pride shot, selective colour works really well...top notch:)

They didn't work.....b****r...at least I have 6 days left :D

Andy, good work on your pride photograph, it works well. The SC suits the image, highlighting the flags works as they are the main focal point.
Its not something I've ever done SC I think it has to be done sparingly as it won't work with every photograph but you've nailed it here. Iain

Good job Andy... pride works, and the colour pop is spot on... I feel the flags might be a little small in the frame even so though.

Really great take on the theme, nicely spotted. I like it because everyone is represented.

The selective colouring works here, its not something I like in a picture as it normally detracts from the purpose. Here it works because its part of a bigger scene and teh dramatic sky compliments it.

Just had to post this one. Not my final submission...hoping to make that one tonight :D

I took a walk to Eccur Reservoir yesterday and on my way back it started to rain. I thought, I know, I'll grab Shorty out of my bag....nothing wrong with a grown man playing with toy soldiers in the woods...:suspect:

Anyway, he found himself some shelter....I got wet :D

 Nice one Andy.
The deep green colour tones, the oof background and strong composition make this a very likeable photograph. It has a fun element to it, particularly liked your side story too. All round  for this Andy.
If this is a joker, I am intrigued to know what your main image is going to be. Iain

Soft – #1 – Whilst I feel this say sharp rather than soft but I like it especially with the reflection of the spikes in the balloon

Pride – The selective colour works on this but I’d like to have seen the flags more prominent

Waiting for your final short.....

have to say focus is off for short pic
Flags not sure about pride in a flag as a concept, but thats just me.

Cheers, I was after a cartoon feel..

Yeah, point taken :) with sharp..

 He's cropping up a lot lately!

Great DOF. Joke shot or not I think you've focused on his feet , doh! I look forward to your proper entry:thumbs:

I need to check the focus on this and...sure i focused on his eyes.

Fun image for the theme....not sure about the focus though...his eye's do seem a little sharp but def his feet mostly in focus bit .

C'mon , where's your 2nd image

'Toys' :nono: they are Soldiers....:D

Jackie bought me another 200 at the weekend.....so I think they'll make an appearance. Might even recreate Waterloo

The DOF on the 105 is razor thin and appears I missed :bonk:

I have my proper Short planned, but have a feeling it's beyond my ability, we'll see.

Cheers.

Well, was looking to get out tonight for my Short, but the guys at work told me it was not advisable to venture out in the rain with my kite :bonk:

I have another backup idea...

Cheers all.

Hi Andy....

A grown man, in the woods, playing with little men, I hope no one saw you!!!!

HaHa....nice idea....well taken:)

Now, no-one said it would be easy...but sometimes I really do make it hard for myself.

10pm...tired...eaten too much and have to creep around so Jackie doesn't chuck things at me....:D

The final product was supposed to be a tryptic....but one didn't work out.

Also realised when I loaded the photographs I'd somehow flicked picture quality to TIFF and the editability in LR was reduced somewhat.

Anyway, enough gripping.

Last soldiers for a while...

And...message to self, "Research lighting, buy some lights and use them!" :bonk:

I can see what you mean about trying to get a triptych out of this. I'm afraid you've got some strange editing effects going on at the top right corner of #2.

Ok am I being special? What is the link to 'short'? I prefer the angle of number two, the little dude centre top is nice and sharp. But other than the cowboy looking smaller I'm not getting the point here:thinking:

Yep, I'm special. I've just seen the title:bonk:

 :D

:bat:

Well spotted. I've added an edit below. I thought it was about time I started to use layers in PS, and had an edit using the blending drop down (I think) and it may have improved

Anyway, the main issue I had was light, obviously, but I used a torch to light the soldiers with the main light switched off.

I feel it would have been vastly better taken either outside in nice light, or at least inside with nice light. The torch has really burned the details out, especially on the lower soldiers.

Anyway, lessons learned which is what it's all about :D

That looks much better Andy. I find if I move my screen to a different angle that these things show up. I've caught a few ones myself before posting.

I totally agree about your lessons learned sentiments. Just being on TP is a massive learning experience. There's so much on here that has helped me improve my photography.

Great idea Andy, I like the 1st one where you are looking down on the soldiers.

Cheers. Im a bit ggrrrrrr about the lighting and intend to get better....

Hi ya

flippin heck...you n your soldiers

I was gonna post the other night when you put the 1st ones up & discreetly mention the "whatever's going on top right corner ?"....edit is much better though something is niggling me...think it maybe that the 1st row of soldiers are way to blurred to make out what they are....or that could just be me ?

Light is very bright , constant white BG , shadows where there should be so  from me

Now...once you've sussed layers can you give me some lessons please :D
