Well, I'm not one to take the easy route...:cuckoo:

I'll preface this post with a story, I has just been to the shop with my daughter, Isabelle (8), and on the way back she asked, "Have you photographed the egg yet?", and when I said, "Yes", she replied, "Did you fail!".

How I laughed...:bat:

I guess, though, she was right.

This was hard and I post it for comments on how to improve it.

The light was my main issue and even with a diffuser in between the egg and the window I felt there was still too much glare on the chocolate.

I have one where the chocolate looks better but the glare is way to bright :bonk:

I have, it has to be said, no problems with posting my failures as well as my successes....:D

Like your entrance shots, for me the 2 of the tunnel without you at the front are the better ones of the set, nothing personal fella :). Also love the soldier with the cider bottle shot :thumbs:.

Soft, love the idea behind the balloons and the cacus and the egg I really like.
 
Hi Andy, the balloon/cactus shots are very good, out of the 2 I am going for the 2nd one, prefer the tight crop and you can see the balloon pressing in a bit more. As for the egg, I think it has worked very well and the lighting looks good, only thing I would probably change is the amount of chocolate, it looks as if there is too much there
 
yuk indeed, one of my fave foods (egg) defiled with melted chocolate *shudder*

tis a good shot tho :lol:
 
Entrance - like all your takes on the theme, looks like it kept you busy. The solider and the cobra one is particularly good. Like the colours and the DOF.

Soft - the balloon idea is a good one. #1 and '2 for me. Its soft but yet prickly too.

The egg one is a bit yukky. Not sure how you would improve the shot, I can appreciate it would be a bit tricky to setup.

Of the 3 original images I prefer #2 for the closer view...not entirely sure about the Soft part but guess that as ballons can be punctured quite easily then they could be termed soft :thinking:

As for your last effort....if you class that as a fail then I'm in big trouble :eek: Reminds me of my image for Paradox last year & that was a mare to get right . You mentioned the brightness....seems fine to me...maybe a little too much between the shells but thats about all . Melted chocolate does have a sheen...I'm more bugged by the apparent lumps in it & there does seem to be far more than would have been in the egg...if it were real of course :lol: What happened to the egg white in the right hand shell ....it's empty ?
& whilst I'm in full flow....there's a very distinct line around the edge of the chocolate....more noticeable on the RHD but it does go all the way round from the right shell to the left ....shadow ?

Having said all that I do like it & think it fits the theme...neat idea as well :thumbs:

Cheers. Yeah the egg...the chocolate just kept running. Not easy to work with.

Hi......b****r, I didn't even notice the RH empty shell...bet Isabelle scoffed it....

The line around the chocolate...the egg was next to the window and resulted in a heavy shadow so I used defused flash to cancel it out (a lot of messing with an aspect of photography...lighting...that I know very little about!).

#3, something I used to do as a kid...just stick some sellotape over a balloon and you can put a needle in without it popping...:D

I think it’s a :clap: for your efforts with the balloon and I see what you where trying to interpret but for me it doesn’t work, the cactus needles seem to be the subject and not the soft balloon there has to be a bigger indentation in the balloon for it to work. I think.

The egg: I like the idea behind it and you have executed it quiet well as you say the lighting is a problem did you try a flash or was it totally natural light? As said a bit too much chocolate and the RH egg is empty but you’re DOF and the chocolate being used as a lead-in line is good. :thumbs:

Might have to file this if you don’t mind to try myself later.

I see now that I could have improved the balloon photograph...maybe a little less spike...photograph down the spike into the dent in the balloon.

Yeah, the chocolate...I did mixture of external flash and natural light. This one was both. The chocolate just kept spreading...:bonk:

I think the balloon shots are lovely; great colours and, well, everything really, but they say sharp to me, not soft.

The egg is better than you think! It's very clever, and very well shot.

The tunnel on the bum thing was a little odd but I like the next ones you did.

I have to say the soldier with the beer bottle is EXCELLENT, they just jump out at you, well done:clap:

Soft, mmm, I agree with everyone about the cactus being sharp rather than soft.

I'm sorry but I find your egg shot a bit, well, disgusting! I'm a choccie freak and don't quite get why you have melted choccie in a real egg:gag: Technically I think (as usual) it's very well shot but the content disturbs me! I won't tell you what I think it really looks like!!!
Why don't you have the proper egg yolk flowing out?

Soft - I'm afraid I have to agree with a few of the previous posters about the balloon photos saying Sharp rather than Soft. The egg, I can see what you were trying to do but unfortunately it does not work for me. Combining a real (non-chocolate) egg with chocolate is just wrong to me. I think perhaps if you'd done a similar shot with a soft boiled egg and the yolk spilling out, it could have made for a great, colourful photo with yellow against white as opposed to the brown.

Does it say soft? Yes, but a I think a runny yolk would have worked better for the theme, but not for the image - the chocolate gives the viewer that something extra to look at..

As for the lighting and the glare, I can only offer the suggestion that you read up on photographing wine glasses, I imagine the glare/ reflection control on those could help with the chocolate.

The ballons are doing nothing for me, sorry.

I can't deny that looks a bit suspect :D Reason I didn't use an egg yoke was that it was Easter and I acctually used one of my daughter's easter egg.

No worries. Many times I'm trying to incorporate new techniques with my themes and on this occasion it was OCF.

I think it would have been a whole lot better with runny yolk as someone said previously the brown is just wrong.

Gottit! I agree it's great; only thing is though, he's such a pure artist that it's not a lot of help as an instructional video; it all comes from his heart, not his brain, and I'm not even sure he could tell you how he achieves such great result. Very very inspirational though.

Landscape is probably my weakest type of photography; I just don't seem to be able to capture anything interesting :( Doesn't help that I don't have a wide angle lens (24mm @ 1.5 crop factor = 36mm equiv is the shortest I have), but it could also be to do with a lack of ability and a lack of decent bloody landscapes down here :(

Totally agee with that. There are a few snippets but I was left wanting more. I do like videos where the photographer explains what they did to get their photographs.

Entrance - #1 doesn't do any thng for me i am sorry to say. I see the point of the tunnel as an entracne and presumably the move of the head is something to do with deciding whether to enter:thinking: But I find the image in the backside of the jeans to be confusing.

#2 - I like that dark entrance a lot . Good composition. I think that i wuld have liked to have seen a bit (but only a bit) more detail in the bottom right side ( a hedge?)

#3 - Excellent image of the soldier and bottle. Super pic with ex focus and colours.

Hi, all, firstly apologies if I've missed your Soft and Pride but I hope to catch up shortly :thumbs:

OK, Pride, I had several ideas but the first 2 didn't work out.

While at the Royal Armouries TP meet last night I saw an opportunity for Pride.

The Royal Armouries is a great looking building (I know those that have seen it may not think so...:D), the surrounding area is cracking, the inside gives me a lot of Pride, the history of the United Kingdom (I know, it's not all good).

Anyway, I rarely do selective colour but felt this would work.

I'm looking to photograph my other Pride tomorrow night while Jackie is out :naughty:

Yep - nailed the theme this week time for some National Pride. That.said the flags are small and if not selectively coloured would have been lost in the photo?

n.b. I too choose a flag ;-) for this weeks piccy.

Well, I was looking forward to photographing my (proper) Pride tonight but looking out of the window it will either have to wait until Thursday/Friday night :shake:

Hi Andy. I like that shot for pride, especially the conversion, which has made for a very dramatic sky!

I think perhaps SC on the Union Flag only might have been better, as the others draw my eye first, but I do like it as it is, and it sure does say pride :)
 
Some selective colouring work some don’t this fits into the does category in my opinion.

The colourings of the flag says pride to me as well as its a royal armoury and think the overall image is cracking with the dynamic sky you have captured, Sharp from front to back too with some good mono tones. Nice to see someone using the perspective on the uprights as well. :thumbs:

Couple of little points the bottom right bars are a bit distracting and maybe a better use of the rail as a lead-in line from the corner.

One of the many things I'm trying to sort out are extraneous objects but I didn't even notice the bars lower right...:bonk:

I know what you mean about the rail - I have a better photograph with the rail entering the frame from the corner but the flags weren't flapping. I couldn't crop this without compromising the glass tower...
