I've got a photoshoot for a 6 year old boy and a 5 month old girl tomorrow morning and I'm stuck on ideas for poses. Problem is at 5 months I doubt she'll be able to sit up on her own so any shots will mostly be with support from her older brother. Ones on her own would have to be with mum and erase her out. Any ideas anyone? All shots will be on white bg and floor

A bit daft, I don't know anything about kids, or portrait photography, but couldn't you get the 5 month old leaning against something, that discrete and hidden behind her? a stack of cushions of some kind?

At 5 months old, for her single shots, I would just lay her down on a nice fluffy rug or blanket and shoot from above or the side - no need for them to be propped up or held by mum. You can lay her down beside her big brother, one of them with their feet at 6, the other with their feet at 12, with their faces nearly touching cheek to cheek - they can either both look up at the camera to you, or the older one can look at the baby, give them a kiss on the cheek, hopefully the baby will turn to look at them and they will smile at each other. Big brother can also lay on his side and smile at her/kiss her while she looks up at you.

I was planning on poses for just the lastolite hilite background but yeah, I don't see any reason why I can't use areas of the living room or bedroom if it makes for a good pic

sorry, just seen this, must have replied at the same time. Yes I was thinking about the one with the heads side by side but opposite ways but I think would look better on a blanket, rug, quilt etc than on a plain white floor. Can't see that looking right. Thanks for the tips

This wee one was 5 months old and not able to sit up - I did all her images laying down on a rug until we did parent shots

They're lovely. Simple but very effective. I'm warming to the idea of doing the baby shots away from the white bg and leave that just for the boy and both of them. Thanks
