Hi Guys..

Just wondering what software are people using for Portraits. As I like something that smooth the skin out a bit instead of showing too much details of like spots and the like know what I mean as some cameras and lens can be so sharp and brings out details we dont like ha ha

I just use Photoshop, the healing brush to clear spots, blemishes etc and then use the frequency separation technique to smooth the skin.

There are a couple of techniques you can use with Photoshop. Also Lightroom has a spot removal tool and using the adjustment brush with the clarity slider set to a negative value can help smooth the skin. think it's just a question of what you feel comfortable with

Just though there was software that does it for you or some presets software??

I use both Lightroom & On1 Photos portrait section, but they acheive the same thing. In lightroom I'll use the spot removal tool to remove marks, then brush on reduced clarity to smooth skin & the iris setting to bring up the eyes if needed.

I'm sure someone will be happy to sell you something. ;)

Portrait professional seems to do everything you want well worth a look you can have free trial so try before you buy

This if you want an 'out of the box' solution. But beware, it's easy to overdo.

Personally I hate this type of software because it creates utter junk that bears no resemblance to a 'photograph', the images used to sell it are awful to the point of comedy in the eyes of any decent portrait photographer.

Photoshop is your friend... research dodging & burning and frequency separation.

Portrait Pro is much abused - you have to use a really really light touch with it and actually, photoshop is normally quicker once you know what you're doing.
Imagenomic Portraiture is something of an industry standard but again is very easy to over do things with it.

The Dynamic Skin Softener in Color Efex Pro is useful in conjunction with frequency separation, don't use it on it's own.
