I am doing my first portrait shoot next week with a friend. I don't have any lights or external flash. Is it enough to have just a get an external flash or do I need to get some proper lights. If so what is the best 'starter' light to get?

Many thanks for any help.

Jack wecome. !!!

Now you dont say what style of portrait you will be tring to recreate...

An outdoor shoot will be ok with natural light. " Depending on available light"

A studio style shot will need lights and b/g of some sort ..? white or black or coloured..

Some is outdoor so fine. The rest inside. What lighting you suggest for indoor?

Again what background will it be..?

This will make a difference to how it should be lit

Sorry new to all this the background will be white or at least light

This will make things harder for you.. You will need to light the b/g seperately And space will be an issue...

Good luck .

I would look through the people and portraits section find what style you like and try and replicate it...

ps

Have a look at lencarter starter kits " pm Gary Edwards"
