I'm thinking of taking a short course or attending a seminar about portrait photography and am looking for some suggestions or advise on good ones to attend.

I'm not interested in learning about studio based, big lighting kit set up at the moment. My style is more minimalist making use of natural light where possible and using real, natural locations to capture spontaneous and natural photographs.

An Annabel Williams one-day course is the obvious choice and certainly her ethos closely matches mine. I was also looking at cjnicolai's work on here and that also closely fits with the style I would like to develop more. It's a shame that she's (you're, if you are reading this cjnicolai!) not doing any more courses in the UK.

So can anyone recommend me courses and books that might be suitable? A course in the North of England or Scotland would be most convenient for me btw.

John, actually, I am about 90% sure I'll be doing a workshop somewhere in the UK in the spring again. I just can't stay away. I love visiting the UK, and have always had a ton of fun with the workshops I've done there.

It's a bit further than you want to travel but the Peak Photography Centre gets good reviews.

cjnicolai - I will listen out for when you're next over here, although I think I may want to do something a bit sooner, that said - no harm in attending multiple sessions!

Kev M - The peak photo centre is actually fairly convenient for me as, previously having been a resident of Sheffield for 10 years, I have lots of friends there to stay with etc. I'll check them out anyways.

Thanks for the suggestions folks.

John

cjnicolai - please let me know more - about your workshops and roughly when and where(yes, I know you said spring, but I will need to sort myself to be in the UK when you are too..!)
If your self-portraits are anything to go by, I think I could learn a lot from you !
Steve
PS - I have just looked at your gallery - some stunning pictures there !

Thanks for the nice comments! I will keep you posted. My biggest challenge, being Denver-based, is coming up with venues at the right price. (The right price being "free", or close to it. LOL.)
