hi all,

I have some CR2 files from my 60D that when converted to DNG and opened in photoshtop (both CS4 and CS5) always open in landscape.

I have to manually rotate all portrait images which is a pain in the back side! The only thing I havent tried is opening the CR2 files directly using photoshop CS5 (as I believe they are only compatible with CS5)

Can anyone advise whether this is sadly just one of those things that can't be avoided?

With my old D90 raw files cameraraw used to automatically rotate them to the correct way up for editing.

thanks

Why convert them to DNG?

because I have cs4 at home and CR2's will not open.

I converted them to DNG and tried and found the orientation issue.

I had already deleted the CR2 files so could only bring the DNG's to work to try on CS5 here.

The 60D CR2 files are not compatable with CS4 and you will need the latest camera raw update 6.2 or above to open 60D CR2 files in CS5.

Adobe Camera Raw 6.3 upgrade here

I'm sorry I can't help re the DNG rotational issue as I've never used them.

CS4 wont open those files or update to the latest version Jim.

Hmm an odd one, I haven't had this issue myself with the CR2 files in CS5, I can only imagine its something to do with the DNG conversion somewhere.

CS4 wont open those files or update to the latest version Jim.

That's what I said in post 4.

The CS2 files from a 60D will only open in CS5 that has had the camera raw update of 6.2 or higher installed.

They will not open in CS4, which is not really what the OP wants to hear. :nono:

Have you got auto rotate set in camera???

would this affect the raw? I've got auto rotate on playback turned off (so I have to turn the camera 90 degrees to view portraits correctly)

Yes it would effect the raw's as there is marker set in the header of the raw file that software programs use to determine the oriantation of the image for display just like your lcd display.

hmm interesting. never happened with my D90 when auto rotate was turned off there. I'll try with it set to on tonight and see if that makes a difference...

yep, problem solved.

thanks a lot
