I'm going on my first ever portrait course on Friday, being held at Bolsover Castle. I've obviously snapped family and friends a lot, but never done anything 'set up' before. I'm really excited about it and look forward to sharing some of the results. I know there are professionals there on the course to guide and advise, but has anyone got any sneaky tips that will give me a bit of a heads up before I go so I can make the most of the day? I understand that there are two young lady models one is apparently 'very traditional' and the other is 'contemporary, edgy' if that makes the slightest bit of difference!

Thanks in advance!

Pl post some feedback after the course.I am interested mainly in portraits.
Have fun.

As renu says, please let us know how it went !
I'd be interested in doing a similar course if I could find a decent one down in Cornwall.
I imagine that having some poses in your head will at least make you feel slightly in charge when it comes to you doing some shots, and self confidence never did anyone any harm..
Look hard at the light and shadows and remember that the larger and closer the light source, the softer the light.
Good luck with it !

Will do - hopefully there'll be a couple of presentable shots that I can put up for critiquing and I'll be happy to feed back - I've been on a course with this company (Line & Light Ltd if I'm allowed to mention?) and they were completely ace so I have high expectations.

Do you have a link for them Caroline - a quick google comes up with a lighting company...

would be interested in finding out how it went - to do one myself - anyone else know of anything of this sort in Nottingham ??
