I'm not sure where this goes so move if it's not supposed to be here.

Well, I am new to photography and I'd like to make a portfolio, not for college or anything, just to have all my images put together nicely to show family & friends.

I am wanting to know a few things

Size of photography prints?
What information will I have to put?
What is the general layout of a portfolio?
What will I need to make one?
and anything else I need to know..

Sorry about being a total newbie with all this, but you're all nice so I'm hoping I'm not making you mad :)

Everyone was a noob once :)

Size of photography prints? Whatever size you want and feel best with! Some people like small, some people like large, it's all about individual preferance!
What information will I have to put? What would you like it to have? My portfolio for college didn't have any writing in it. Just photos. But if its to show family and friends, you can always have wee notes at the bottom and when and where it was etc. Again, up to you!
What is the general layout of a portfolio? Again. It's all about preference. But it's nice for a photograph to have room to 'breathe'. I'd keep it to one photo per page.
What will I need to make one? You can buy portfolios, big thick sketch book pads, general photo albums... all from various stores and art stores. Have a look about and see what grabs you!
and anything else I need to know.. Portfolio's are very personal things, and consequently you should be happy with what you've chosen, the photos and the portfolio should reflect YOU. Which is why all my answers are pretty crap, because I feel everyone will give different answers :p
