Can anyone recommend best/most suitable backdrop which are foldable/portable to take with me to locations such as halls etc.. Im after getting a nice clean grey backdrop to some pictures, so not after textured/patterned etc..

I purchased a backdrop stand and 2m by 3m vinyl backdrop yesturday from a company called bessel studio lighting, there not to far from me so i collected and saved myself on postage, only set it up quickly, but going to have a proper play later on today.1st impressions very well made for a very good price.............

try looking on ebay, for a pop up/collapsible backdrop, usually there only about forty quid plus postage
 
I bought the Interfit black/white pop-up backdrop from warehouse along with the dedicated stand. Think it cost me ~£140 inc. postage and I think it's a lovely piece of kit to have. I don't often do portraiture but when I do I want something I can store away easily and set up quickly so this does the trick for me :)
 
I asked Photodeals the following questions and thought i would share the answer with you all;

1) what the Super Collapsible Background AZSD02 is made from
Its made from a heavy duty, crease resistant cotton /rayon mix and has a stain resistant coating.

2) is it in any way washable?
It is spongeable, but cannot be removed from the frame so cannot be place in a washing machine.

3) is it pure white or does it have a cream tint to it as per the picture? many Thanks
It is pure white and not as shown.

Unfortunately now they are now out of stock and i did not manage to order mine!
 
finally got hold of one so took some quick pictures. Not great but give you an idea.

Now the site says;
"Self supporting -lean against a wall or alternatively hang from loop provided"

If using the loop then it must also have some other support as i seems near impossible to stand up square. It did lean against a wall but slips on laminate floor (as you would expect) and collapsed on the floor.

I will look to buy/make some sort of holder (similar to reflector arm) to help support.

Ill post up some pictures soon once i have used it.
 
It's back in stock again!

Looking forward to your holder pics. I'm thinking of making one out of UVC plumbers tubing - or i might buy a backdrop holder.. but that does seem a little expensive :)
 
I've bought two lastolite systems and am disappointed in them both.

I have one that is a sprung-loaded affair (a bit like an enormous oblong tri-grip) that clips foot and head into a single, special for purpose stand that is quite heavy and screws together. You can then velcro a black or white washable backdrop to it. These backdrops are excellent, washable, light weight and crease resistent...but the system is so tall it won't fit in rooms with normal height ceilings.

Then I bought a more conventional system (lastolite again): two light stands and a telescopic pole across the top. The pole is fine, but the light stands are awful! I've never known such difficult to do up light stands.

Hate them both, but I use the conventional system all the time - and grumble everytime. One day I'll replace it.

I have two Photodeals, both with trains. One white/black and the other blue/green.

Getting the damn things back in the bag is a bit hit and miss. Sometimes like Chaz says it takes two minutes. Other times - go put the kettle on and get ready for a laugh!
 
After being punched in the face by a collapsible softbox which i was unpacking for the first time I will be EXTREMELY careful when unpacking this :)
