Hi was you expecting pictures of Poppy Fields, unfortunately so was I. Please could anyone enlighten me as to when Poppies come into bloom as I have seen the odd few floating around. I have always wanted a Poppy field image in my collection. I have drove around Sutton Coldfield lanes and fields but to no avail. Please if anybody knows of any Poppy fields within the West Midlands I would be most grateful for their locations. Thanks pjm

Likewise I went for a cruise around Warks yesterday and spotted nothing in my usual 'hot spots'

Well- at least th EXIF information is telling me now is exactly the right time of year to be looking- but where are the flowers?

Maybe I should get someone in a local avaition club to act as spotters!!!

Thanks, as i say i have seen the odd few but thats all, never mind lets keep looking :)

Hi theres a thread on Tp Clicy Poppy Heaven dont know how far that is from you ask Graham00 where it is, around about 140 miles from me from Sleaford, I assume its near there

I also would like to do poppy fields its a clasic Im in Lancashire so if theres any up this way can someone help me to locate them sure lots of northern folk would like to know,

Me and Bod finally found some somewhere in between Huddersfield and Wakefield yesterday, will try and work out the location in a second.

EDIT - Ok http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=53.557467,-1.5625861&z=18&t=h&hl=en-GB = A fairly good poppy field, Barnsley is the closest big town.

(on a side note, if in the area soon then check out - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=53.576294,-1.5215293&z=16&t=h&hl=en-GB - good field of rape seed on the road side, and a pub just across the street :) )

Still all a bit of a treck from Brum :( sorry!

Funny this - I was thinking it's about time for a "Where are the poppies" thread.

I think I spotted a huge field of Red coming up the M4 today, just a glimpse of it up the hill by Membury services.

Anyone know if the fields of medical poppies are there this year south of Basingstoke? Bullington Cross?

"Hampshire was the UK's capital for opium production, with the county's 2007 crop, taking up 1,238 hectares, almost as large as the rest of the UK's put together."

Another shout from my neck of the woods. Anyone know if the poppies are out near Cranham, Gloucester?

Update -

drove into Cheltenham today and there's a huge field of poppies on the A435/A436 junction at Seven Springs. On the hill rising upwards.

Eddy - that is a fantastic photo - can I ask where that is? Is it near Woodingdean? I've seen a patch from the A27 but I couldn't work out where it was! I've been looking for a location for a while - really want to tick this off the wish list!

Many thanks,

Tom

It is near woodingdean.
Go along the A27 and turn off at the University, At the top of the slip road turn right to falmer rather than left into uni, then there is a lay-by a couple of hundred yards up the road to park.
Another photographer told me there should be more soon as it is still early, but get e'm why you can.

thanks for kind comment & good luck.

Thanks Eddy - much appreciated :)

'Forgot' I was flying to Munich on Tuesday! Anyway it was beautifully clear over England and from 30,000 feet you can survey a LOT of fields. I only saw two good fields and these I think were to the east of Faversham in Kent somewhere off the A299? So if anyone in Kent can perform a ground survey you might get some good pics?

As for the rest of the England I can confirm the M40 corridor is a poppy free zone!!

Cheers Tom thats great, do you have any images please, are up for a revisit,

Damn sorry Dave, missed you post the above, erm pic...

..only the ones feature Marcel from the Spotted A Togger thread
The best field we found, could be more impressive in a few weeks as were plenty of buds

Most of it seems to be mixed with rape

Would be better with more, but it aint bad

Would deffo be up for a re-visit in a few weeks time to see if anymore have sprung up.

Spotted a field yesterday on the way home but didn't have time to investigate.

I saw it from the A350 shaftesbury to Warminster road just before the A303. We'd gone past East Knoyle and it was off to the right (heading north) Possibly Hindon way.

Sorry a bit vague but I was leapfrogging slow traffic.

the field by severn springs on the a436 is in good bloom, just be wary of the farmer ;)

ANY in Devon or Somerset?
cant find a field do you know of one?

Nope - didn't see any on our journey from Padstow the other week, nor around Somerset/Wiltshire this weekend.

A real lack of poppies this year, not even many on the edges of wheat fields as usual

What's this? Letting Marcel out ! Isn't he supposed to be sat there 24 hours a day pedaling away stoking the generator for the server and answering all out inane questions at 3am 9am 3pm or whenever.........

it'll never do, where do all our subscriptions go? :rules:

This is a superb picture, very good. Mrs Cowasaki loves it too although she could have told you that but it is hard getting her to comment on here other than via me. She is another forum's Matt Sayle !! :)

AARGHHHH! :bang:

Every day I can see in the distance from the M4 a HUGE field of poppies on the approach to Membury services.

I've spent a week criss crossing roads trying to find them on my commute but so far with no luck. So I put it down to the sunlight reflecting off the brown tops

Only this morning, there it is - definitely a huge field of poppies.
Time to get the maps out again.

On the bright side, I found a tiny patch of ground only a mile from home yesterday with a few poppies in.
