Poppies 2011 - locations?

Often see the poppies as driving over Devils Dyke, Brighton, East Sussex way, but last year they didnt appear, also see them as driving over Falmer East Sussex and Ditchling, will go take a looksie...

I was at this site yesterday. They are fantastic - well worth a long drive. I'm lucky enough to be in Worcs already. Guy from Worcs Wildlife Trust said they should be good for at least another week.

Thanks for the heads up about the Blackstone Fields poppies being in bloom - we went there yesterday and they are simply stunning!

I have still to process most of my shots, but this will give you an idea of what awaits if you manage to get there:

Just drove past some just before the a41 roundabout just outside of Oxford.

Of course the south of France where I have just been was covered in poppy fields there were stunning places where the poppies have way to fields full of vines but I was poor at photographing them although I did try

I can confirm 3 poppy fields about 6 miles North West of Swindon. 2 fields on the B4019 between Coleshill and Faringdon, just before you climb up Badbury Hill. The 3rd is in Great Coxwell, just behind the National Trust Tithe Barn. Looks good for another week or so.

Excellant - will head out there next week. There's a few in a cluster on the bridge on the road from lechlade to highworth, between the road to buscott and inglesham.

Was out at Craster the other day and found a single poppy.

Ive been looking for poppy fields up north for years, last year I saw 2 fields on the way to York (south of York) on the main road we were/all the family, with screaming grandchildren in the campervan gong on a family holiday in a static to Whitby, I was delighted to see them and said Im gonna go down the next road and park up, to go back for some shots wife said take shots on the way back, worse thing is we didn't go back the same way, :bang: but I know exactly were they were and this year Im going in the car

Id be interested if anyone else knows any up north

Dave, it looks like there is a few poppies growing round the tank next to the roundabout just outside Leyland, you know where I mean?

The summary of my mini research on flickr:

1. Budleigh salterton (near Exmouth) http://www.flickr.com/photos/snowyturner/5783843354/
2. A46 towards Stroud http://www.flickr.com/photos/offrodas/5789963593/in/photostream/
3. Fisherton De La Mere in Wiltshire
4. Another 'secret' location near Stonhenge. Some people are plain thick.
5. Blackstone nature reserve near Birmingham as already mentioned before.

I haven't been to any yet and will probably give a46 a go first.

Hopefully that's useful, and someone could maybe confirm and expand the list.

Hum a46 towards Stroud is local-ish. I wonder if that's north or south of Stroud?

I strongly suspect south and near M4. Please let me know if you find it.

A420 just before the turning for wyfield wyke don't know how to gps it just drove past some

helpful hint for today, take a couple of hayfever tablets before going to find a poppy field.

i very rarely suffer from pollen but yesterday we went to shoot a couple of clients and their horses and they had a poppy field on their yard. excellent we thought, would make great shots..

i look like the friggin elephant man, even now 24 hours later. had a major reaction.. lol

Anybody seen any in West Yorkshire?

just walked the dogs in seckar woods, just south of wakefield and there are two fields just off Seckar Lane:) hands were full of dogs so no camera!!!

I photographed a field of rape/poppies yesterday, it was a little sparse but has great potential as the rape is over and it's full of poppy buds, it is on the White way 2.5 miles from Cirencester, I drove from withington towards chedworth then instead of turning left into chedworth, stayed on the Cirencester road (White way) and there it was about 2 miles on the left... I expect that within the next week it will look fantastic. Other than that there is one near the birdlip turning /beaufort polo club entrance apparently but I haven't been over yet

They must have sprung up quick as I went all over that area last week and not a bean.. ( or any poppies for that matter)

M11, just as you take the a11, a field to the right is smothered in poppies. I wish I'd had time to stop :(

They have been there at least a week or so, this will be the second wave of poppies my friend said the field was covered last week, so I was a little disappointed but I think in a few days it will be excellent again, it wasn't easy to find though, I wouldn't have without instructions.

Anyone tried the A46 yet? Going to go have a look this week once they sky decides to play ball

Must have been on the one road or track I didnt go down! :bonk:

I can confirm there are some on the A46 about a mile before the Westonbirt turn off heading towards Bath on the right.
I didnt stop there, as there was limited space and another tog stole the best spot!

I went further down and got some nice shots in a wheat field instead.

There is a also a very small amount in a field on the left just outside Nailsworth, there is a layby right beside it too.

M11 going north, just before you get to Duxford (J10 I think) there is a field to the right full of em, stands out a mile off. Then when you get a bit closer and can see across its right next to a yellow field full of rape seed. What a cool shot that would be!

Edit - Sorry Tori hadn't seen your post!

I've just been down there. It is halfway between Stroud and J18 M4. The field is not bad, and can clearly accommodate a few photographers. I shot quite a good sunset; the photo is coming tomorrow on my flickr.

The field is a bit narrow, and I had to compose specifically to make it look bigger. It may be a bit better for the sunrise, as one could stand down the bottom of the field along its longer side, and shoot the rising sun.

I am probably going to check out the Worcestershire field on Saturday, if I decide to go to B'ham for a little shopping.

Might have been you I saw! About 8.30 ish I drove past.

Where is this location? I'm from the Oxon area and would love to find more? Cheers

I took a visit to Great Coxwell last week, a nice field of them.

I've been hunting around the usual spots this week, then finally spotted some near Marlborough. It was raining this morning so hopefully it'll be ok on the return journey tonight.

Here's my shot which is a field just outside Basingstoke on the A339. I know it's a grab shot, because I was in a bit of a rush! Hopefully I'll get a chance to do something a bit better with it soon.

Raining on the way home and dirty sky so didn't stop. I'll go in the morning.

Anyone spotted any around the Manchester area?
