Hello Folks,

Is it possible to use a SB-900 and a SB-800 remotely without using the pop up flash on a D700?

Nope, it isn't, but you can set the pop up to '--' in the flash menu and it won't contribute to the lighting, although it will still flash to trigger both the others through CLS - only other way is to get wireless triggers, but then you lose the CLS function unless you spend big bucks...
 
You can if you buy the SU 800 Commander but its not cheap
