Advice please. First thing, I can't afford a flash gun, I lost my job a short while ago and such things are beyond my means at the moment.
A friend has asked me, at short notice, to take photos at his sons 21st party.
I know that the pop up flash, while illuminating the scene, will be harsh with deep shadows (learnt this on here :) ) but at least will record drunk people and antics
Is a diffuser type thingy any good on the pop up flash? Even if the results are only a little better it will be fine. I can just about stretch to a fiver for one of those.
Advice (not arguments) gratefully received.

Here's a couple of ideas that won't cost you anything. Try draping a plain white hankie over the pop up or perhaps a piece of soft white toilet paper. Either of those should act as a diffuser to some extent.

you could try cutting up an old milk cartoon for something cheap and perhaps a little more durable than paper...

Perhaps you could buy a cheap older flash (just check the trigger voltages), which bounces, and can be controlled manually - quite often recommended to run flashes in manual mode anyway for predictable results!

I am still in a fix for it..It may have cause problem in concern with casting of images also.

A shower cap works quiet well, have used one myself in the past, try and get hold of one designed for kids if your planning on putting it over a pop up, the elastic hold it on quiet well if positioned right
