Pop up backgrounds

What do people think ?

In what context are you asking about reflectors?
Are you asking how big they should be, what colour, round triangular or rectangular, or where to buy?

Sorry lol. I'm asking what people opinions are on them as have been told there not that good for portrait work

Not on their own perhaps, but when used in conjunction with other equipment, they are worth far more than they cost.
A quite large reflector was used on the Marriott brochure shoot, and for the shot in the reception area, nothing else would have done, and the dress would have had a tungsten colour cast down one side without it.

Hmm thanks
I was thinking about getting a 2mx2m one instead of a framed background as it would be easier for me to transport and set up

It also means your question wasn't really about reflectors, but background alternatives.
Edit: I see you have now changed your thread title to ask about backgrounds, which makes my replies seem pretty stupid

Comes to us all, mate!

I have a Lastolite Hi Lite (the 6x7 foot one), it's great for shoots at clients houses or elsewhere, easily portable and produces great quality pics.

Certainly agree they are a good bit of kit, especially in tight spaces. My only concerns are down to the price. But if the accounts can stretch, they are definitely worth a look.

I've got a 6 foot by 7 foot one with long train that I got second hand from here. White on one side, black on the other. Really easy to store, put away and carry in the car.

Lighting on white is easy with a flashgun either side and another in a soft box in front.

They sort of prop up on their own but I use a backdrop support as well.

They work great in lounges/small rooms, but you have to carefully watch the size restrictions.

As above , I have a hi lite . They are great to use . And you can use in small spaces . I also use mine for small event stuff as well . Unless there's a rely good background at the venue . Nice clean White background . People love the pics :-)
But they ain't cheap :-( s/h is a good way . Seen a few on eBay .
